MATT BOLDY BECOMES FIRST IOWA WILD ALUMNUS TO WIN OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL
Feb 22, 2026MILAN, Italy – Matt Boldy became the first Iowa Wild alumnus to win an Olympic gold medal as Team USA beat Team Canada 2-1 in the gold medal game of the men's hockey tournament at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 at Santaguilia Arena on Sunday.
Boldy scored Team USA's lone regulation goal in the gold medal game and finished the tournament with four points (2-2=4). Boldy, who plays for the Minnesota Wild, recorded 28 points (10-18=28) in 24 games with Iowa (2020-22).
Darcy Kuemper also earned a silver medal with Team Canada. Kuemper, who posted a 9-13-0 record in 22 games with Iowa, recorded a 2.63 goals-against average (GAA) and a .922 save percentage in two seasons (2013-15) in Des Moines.
Iowa Wild defenseman David Spacek represented Czechia at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympic games, skating in five games and notching one assist and four shots on goal.
Goaltender Samuel Hlavaj also represented Slovakia in Olympic play, posting a 2-3-0 record with a 3.56 GAA and a .908 SV% as Slovakia advanced to the bronze medal game.
