SAMMY WALKER, JESPER WALLSTEDT NAMED TO 2023 AHL ALL-STAR CLASSIC
Jan 11, 2023DES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa Wild, in conjunction with the American Hockey League (AHL), announced today forward Sammy Walker and goaltender Jesper Wallstedt were named to the Central Division All-Star roster for the 2023 AHL All-Star Classic, presented by Bell in collaboration with Manulife Bank.
Walker, 23, has tallied 27 points (13-14=27) in 26 games with Iowa this season including one game-winning goal, seven power play tallies, and one shorthanded goal. The 5-foot-10, 174- pound Edina, MN native leads the team in goals (13) and plus-minus (plus-9), and is second among AHL rookies in scoring. Walker made his NHL debut with Minnesota on Dec. 10, 2022 at Vancouver and scored his first NHL goal on Dec. 27, 2022 at Winnipeg. In six games in the NHL this season, he has recorded one goal, a plus-2 rating, and five shots.
Wallstedt, 20, has recorded a 2.87 goals against average, 0.906 save percentage, and 8-7-3 record across 18 games played with Iowa this season. The 6-foot-3, 213-pound Vasteras, Sweden native became the first goaltender in Iowa Wild history to score a goal when he scored against the Chicago Wolves in a 5-2 win on Nov. 12, 2022.
This is the first AHL All-Star Classic for both Walker and Wallstedt. The two are the 12th and 13th members of the organization to be named to the AHL All-Star Classic, joining Sam Anas, Gerry Mayhew, Brennan Menell, Tim Army, Kappo Kahkonen, Cal O’Reilly, Luke Kunin, Alex Tuch, Teemu Pulkkinen, Matt Dumba, and Gustav Olofsson.
