SAN ANTONIO TOPS IOWA 5-2

Iowa Welcomes Milwaukee on Saturday 

Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Wild (6-7-0-0, 12 points) were defeated by the San Antonio Rampage (7-7-0-1, 15 Points) 5-2 in front of 6,696 fans at the Wells Fargo Arena on Friday night. Rampage Captain Greg Rallo scored twice, helping his team win the first meeting of the season between the two clubs. San Antonio goalie Jacob Markstrom (1-1-0) stopped 34 Iowa shots for the victory. Wild defenseman Jonathon Blum scored and added an assist, as his team dropped its fourth straight loss at home. Center Zack Phillips also picked up a goal in the defeat. Iowa Wild goalie Darcy Kuemper (3-6-0) stopped 26 San Antonio shots in the loss. The Wild continues a six-game homestand with Milwaukee on Saturday at 7:05 P.M.

The Rampage got on the scoreboard first at 8:45 with a goal by forward Steve Pinizzotto. Defenseman Zach Miskovic fired a wrist shot to the net and Pinizzotto deflected the shot to give the Rampage a 1-0 lead. Defenseman Colby Robak added an assist on Pinnizotto’s third goal of the year. The Wild tied the game 1-1 at 14:43 with a goal by forward Zack Phillips. The Iowa forward carried the puck around the San Antonio net, bouncing a shot off a Rampage defender into the net. Defensemen Jonathon Blum and Brian Connelly each assisted on Phillips’ fifth goal of the season. San Antonio regained its lead at 19:47 with a goal by defenseman John Lee. The Rampage defenseman fired a slap shot from the top of the right-wing circle past Kuemper, giving his club a 2-1 advantage. Forwards Vincent Trocheck and Bobby Butler each picked up an assist in the play.

At 5:02 of the second period Rampage Captain Greg Rallo snapped a wrist shot over the shoulder of goalie Darcy Kuemper, expanding San Antonio’s lead to 3-1. Rallo’s third tally of the year was set up by Drew Shore and Jed Ortmeyer. Iowa pulled closer at 13:08, trimming the deficit to 3-2 after defenseman Jonathon Blum scored his second goal of the season. Connelly and forward Erik Haula had the assists on the power-play goal.

San Antonio regained its two-goal lead at 1:43 of the third period. Center Jon Matsumoto snapped a wrist shot past Kuemper for the 4-2 lead. Rampage forwards Quinton Howden and Jack Combs each had an assist on Matsumoto’s third goal of the year. Rallo added his second goal of the night at 14:00 of the third, beating Kuemper for his fourth goal of the year. Defensemen Ryan Whitney and Alex Petrovic each added an assist, as San Antonio moved ahead 5-2.

The Wild continues a six-game homestand on Saturday, Nov. 16 with the Milwaukee Admirals at 7:05 PM. The first 1,500 fans (12 and under) will be given an Iowa Wild Youth Jersey. Fans may purchase the Subway Family Four Pack for the game, which features four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas and Subway coupons starting at $44. Iowa hosts Grand Rapids on Friday, Nov. 22 at 7:05 p.m. Fans may donate a non-perishable food item to receive a free ticket to an upcoming game, presented by Zerorez. Also, as part of the Great American Smokeout, fans who quit smoking and turn in a tobacco product at the Central Iowa Tobacco Free Partnership table will receive a free ticket to an upcoming game. The Wild concludes its homestand with Abbotsford on Nov. 23 at 7:05 p.m. and Nov. 24 at 5:05 p.m. Saturday night is Veterans Appreciation Night and there is a Helmets to Hardhats Auction. Fans may participate in a live postgame auction of game-worn player helmets, benefitting Helmets to Hardhats. Sunday night, fans may purchase the Subway Family Four Pack for the game, which features four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas and Subway coupons starting at $44.
