GAME 2 (10/09/16) – RALPH ENGELSTAD ARENA, GRAND FORKS, ND

For the second straight day, the Wild and Moose squared off in a neutral-site preseason contest.

And, just like Saturday night in Fargo, the Wild took a 1-0 lead in the second period, following an opening frame where neither team found the back of the net.

Controlling the puck in the offensive zone, Wild winger Jordan Schroeder found Zack Mitchell, who quickly moved it to rookie defenseman Nick Seeler.  The former fifth-round Minnesota selection drilled a one-timer from the left circle, putting the Wild in front at the 7:10 mark.

Late in the second period, the Moose tied the contest with a power-play goal. Winger Kale Kessy earned the marker, with forwards Scott Kosmachuk and Jack Roslovic picking up the assists.

Through two periods, the score was tied 1-1, and the Wild led in shots, 19-15.

Iowa climbed back in front, recording a power-play goal halfway through the third period.  Making his preseason debut, rookie winger Sam Anas deflected Jordan Schroeder’s offering over the blocker of Moose goaltender Jamie Phillips (27 saves).  Defenseman Zach Palmquist also registered an assist.

Forward Tyler Graovac added to the Wild lead, smacking home the rebound off an Anas shot at 11:24 of the period.  Alex Tuch drew the second assist.

With time winding down, the Moose pulled their goaltender and eventually squeezed a rebound between the legs of Wild goaltender Adam Vay (20 saves) to make it a 3-2 game.

The Wild survived a final push by the Moose, claiming a 3-2 victory.  Shots in the third period favored Iowa, 11-7, and for the contest, the Wild outshot the Moose, 30-22. Each team recorded a power play goal.

Schroeder and Anas each recorded two points in the win, which concluded the Wild’s preseason schedule with a 2-0-0 mark.

These two sides should be familiar with one another by the time next weekend concludes, as the Moose visit Wells Fargo Arena to open the regular season.  The two-game set begins on Friday, October 14th
