WILD BEATS RAMPAGE 4-1
Teddy Bear Toss on Friday
Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Wild (7-15-1-1, 16 points) defeated the San Antonio Rampage (14-8-2-0, 30 points) 4-1 in front of 3,587 fans on Thursday at Wells Fargo Arena. Forward Brett Sutter scored twice and Iowa goalie John Curry (3-5-0) made 33 saves to preserve the win. With the game tied at 1-1 in the third, rookie forward Michael Keranen scored a power-play goal at the 5:42 mark of the period, giving Iowa the lead for good. Wild forward Brady Brassart added an empty-net goal with 27 seconds remaining in regulation. Defenseman Danny Syvret and forward Stephane Veilleux each recorded two assists, as the Wild won its second straight game. Forward Ryan Martindale scored the Rampage’s lone goal in the first period. San Antonio goalie Michael Houser (5-3-1) stopped 16 of 19 shots in the defeat. Iowa continues a four-game home stand in a rematch with San Antonio on Friday at 7 p.m.
After a scoreless first period, the Wild opened up the scoring early in second with a goal from forward Brett Sutter at the 24-second mark. Sutter’s fourth goal of the season was assisted by defensemen Matt Dumba and Danny Syvret, giving Iowa a 1-0 lead. The Rampage evened the score at 3:13 of the period when forward Ryan Martindale fired a short-handed goal past Iowa goalie John Curry. Martindale’s goal was the first short-handed score the Wild have surrendered this season and tied the game at 1-1.
Iowa recaptured the lead at the 5:42 mark of the third period with a power-play goal from rookie forward Michael Keranen, giving the Wild a 2-1 lead. Syvret and defenseman Guillaume Gelinas aided Keranen on his fifth goal of the season, ending Iowa’s scoreless power-play streak at 24. Sutter gave the Wild some insurance, scoring his second goal of the game and fifth of the season 17:54 into the period. Defenseman Jonathon Blum and forward Stephane Veilleux assisted Sutter on the goal that gave the Wild a 3-1 lead. Forward Brady Brassart gave the Wild even more breathing room with an empty-net, shorthanded goal at the 19:33 mark of the third. Brassart’s third goal of the season was set up by Veilleux for the 4-1 final score.
The Wild continues a four-game home stand with its second straight against the Rampage on Friday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. For Friday’s game, the Wild will hold a Teddy Bear Toss and feature $2 beers presented by 100.3 The Bus. For Teddy Bear Toss, fans are encouraged to throw new stuffed animals onto the ice after the Wild scores its first goal. The stuffed animals will be collected and donated to local charities. Iowa then hosts Adirondack at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14. After the game, the Wild will hold a postgame autograph session with the team. The game is also a Subway Family Four Pack night, where fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas starting at $48. Iowa plays its fourth straight game at home on Tuesday, Dec. 16, welcoming the Rockford IceHogs at 7 p.m. The team celebrates Taco Tuesdays, presented by Taco Johns. Each fan that comes to the game will be handed a coupon for a complimentary crispy beef taco from Taco Johns. In addition, Taco Johns will select one lucky fan to receive a six-pack of tacos and a pound of potato oles. It’s also a two-for-one Tuesday, presented by Hits 99.9 FM, where fans may purchase one attack end ticket and get one free. The Wild are also hosting a “Toys for Tots” toy drive. Any fan that donates a toy will receive a ticket to a future Wild home game. Also, fans that bring a Subway receipt may purchase a ticket for $5.00 at the Wells Fargo Arena box office.
The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team’s 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena. Season tickets to see the Wild play at Wells Fargo Arena start at just $9 per game.
