KUEMPER LEADS THE CHARGE AS WILD BLANKS FLAMES 4-0

Wild Remains on the Road, Heads North to Canada, Returns Home Feb. 13

ADIRONDACK, NY – The Iowa Wild (16-29-1-1, 32 points) defeated the Adirondack Flames (24-17-3-1, 52 points) 4-0 in front of 2,456 fans on Wednesday night at Glens Falls Civic Center. Iowa registered three power-play goals and goalie Darcy Kuemper did the rest, as the club ended its season-long six-game losing streak. Kuemper (1-2-0) stopped all 28 shots he faced in his first AHL win this year – also his seventh career AHL shutout.  Defenseman Jon Blum and Guillaume Gelinas, as well as forward Michael Keranen each connected for a power-play goal to lead Iowa to its first shutout of the season. Forwards Stephane Veilleux and Brett Bulmer each picked up two assists, as the Wild started its four-game road swing with a victory. Center Brett Sutter added a tally as Iowa moved to 8-14-1-1 on the road this season. With an assist in the second period, Iowa center Tyler Graovac set a new team high for points in a single season. Adirondack goalie Joni Ortio (19-9-1) made 22 saves on 26 shots in two periods of work, taking the loss.  Iowa visits Hamilton at 6 p.m. (CT) on Feb. 6 to continue a four-game road trip.

Iowa claimed a 1-0 lead with the period’s only goal at 10:32. Defenseman Guillaume Gelinas snapped a wrist shot from the left point, sneaking a shot through traffic and past goalie Joni Ortio. Captain Stephane Veillaux and winger Brett Bulmer each added an assist on Gelinas’ second goal of the season and a 1-0 Iowa lead.

Iowa erupted with three goals in the second period, starting at 9:05 of the middle frame. Defenseman Jon Blum floated a wrist past Ortio from the blueline, connecting for the power-play strike. Veilleux and defenseman Justin Falk each had an assist on Blum’s sixth goal of the year. Iowa made it 3-0 at 15:35 of the second period on a great effort by Brett Sutter. The Wild center raced in to beat the Flames to the end wall, took the puck and beat Ortio with a backhand shot, scoring his seventh goal of the year. Forwards Michael Keranen and left wing Brett Bulmer each added an assist on the play. Iowa expanded its lead to 4-0 at 18:56 of the third period. Keranen snapped a wrist shot, beating Ortio shortside from the left of the net. Blum and Tyler Graovac each had an assist on Keranen’s eighth goal of the season. Graovac set a new team record with the assist, collecting his 34th point of the season and surpassing Zack Phillips’ record of 33 set during the 2013-14 season.

Iowa continues on a four-game road trip with stops in Hamilton and Toronto, including the next game on Friday, Feb. 6 at Hamilton. The Wild returns home at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13 to face the Texas Stars, the start of a three-game home stand. Before Friday’s game, the Wild is holding a Career Fair from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the Career Fair is free, and any participants taking part in the fair receives a free ticket to Friday’s game. On Saturday Feb. 14, Iowa hosts Texas and is celebrating Pink in The Rink. The first 7,500 fans at Saturday’s game receive a pink LED light, presented by Susan G. Komen of Iowa and 1700 The Champ. As part of Pink In The Rink, Iowa dons pink-in-the-rink themed specialty jerseys. After the game, the team is holding a live postgame jersey auction, with the proceeds benefitting Susan G. Komen of Iowa. Fans may purchase the Brewdog Pack, presented by Legends American Grill. The package starts at $15 per fan, consisting of a ticket, a Wild puck, a hot dog and a beer at the game. Fans also receive a beer at Legends American Grill – downtown location.

Iowa finishes its three-game home stand at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb.15 against the Oklahoma City Barons. Sunday’s game is Crash’s birthday party, where the team celebrates with a superhero and mascot party. Numerous local mascots and super heroes will be on hand to help ring in Crash’s big day. The first 1,500 fans at Sunday’s game will receive an Iowa Wild insulated lunch bag, sponsored by Star 102.5. Fans may purchase the More 104 Subway Combo Pack, which starts at $12 per person, including a ticket, a hot dog, a soda and a Subway coupon.

The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team’s 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena. Season tickets to see the Wild play at Wells Fargo Arena start at just $9 per game.
