Same Two Teams Meet Again at 4 PM on Saturday

CLEVELAND, OH – The Iowa Wild (0-2-0-1, 1 point) were defeated by the Lake Erie Monsters (1-1-0-0, 2 points) 4-1 in front of 12,791 fans at Quicken Loans Arena on Friday night. Monsters defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk scored 7:01 into the third period, breaking a 1-1 tie and pushing Lake Erie ahead of Iowa for good. The Monsters added two empty-net goals in the last 1:24 for the three-goal win. Lake Erie goalie Anton Forsberg (1-1-0) surrendered the game’s first goal and kept Iowa off the scoreboard the remainder of the game, picking up the win with 31 saves on 32 shots. Forward Kerby Rychel scored twice and added an assist as Lake Erie claimed its home opener for the first time since 2012.  Wild goalie Jeremy Smith (0-2-1) took the loss 40 saves, after facing over 40 shots for the third straight game. Forward Michael Keranen scored Iowa’s lone goal, as the team dropped its third straight. Iowa and Lake Erie will meet again at 4 P.M. on Saturday at Quicken Loans Arena.

Iowa opened the scoring after a scoreless first period, picking up the game’s first goal at 3:28 of the second period. Working the puck on the power play, defenseman Mike Reilly received a pass from Jordan Schroeder. Reilly blasted a slap shot from the point, sending the puck towards the Lake Erie crease.  Goalie Anton Forsberg made the initial save, but Iowa forward Michael Keranen dug out the rebound and scored his first goal of the season for the 1-0 lead. Lake Erie countered at 7:56 when T.J. Tynan slipped a pass to Kerby Rychel in the neutral zone.  Rychel raced in behind the Iowa defense and beat goalie Jeremy Smith low on the blocker side for the 1-1 tie.

Lake Erie squeezed in front of Iowa at 7:01 of the third period, as defenseman Andrew Bodnarkchuk pushed his club ahead. Markus Hannikainen worked the puck with Rychel as the Monsters entered the Iowa zone. Rychel slipped a drop pass to Bodnarchuk, who jumped into the play and beat Smith with a backhand shot to make it 2-1 Lake Erie.  Defenseman Justin Falk scored an empty-net goal at 18:36 for the 3-1 score. Rychel added a second empty-net goal for the 4-1 final score.

After two road games in Cleveland versus Lake Erie on Oct. 16 and 17, Iowa returns home to host Milwaukee at 7 P.M. on Tuesday Oct. 20 at Wells Fargo Arena. For every Tuesday Night home game, all Kids (12 and Under) eat for FREE - including1 hot dog, 1 soda, 1 popcorn, 1 fruit snack and a Wild prize. Also, its Taco Tuesday, presented by Taco John’s. Every fan in attendance gets a free taco voucher.

The Iowa Wild returns home on Saturday Oct. 24 when the Texas Stars come to Wells Fargo Arena for a 7 p.m. puck drop. Saturday night’s game will include a coat drive and celebration of Pheasants Forever. The first 1,500 fans to the game receive a Wild hunting-themed baseball hat courtesy of Gander Mountain, Federal Premium Ammunition, and Pheasants Forever. The two teams rematch on Sunday Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. Sunday will also be “Pucks and Paws” day at Wells Fargo Arena. Fans are invited to bring their dogs to attend the game. The first 500 fans with their dog in attendance will receive an Iowa Wild themed dog bowl mat courtesy of Anderson Animal Hospital and Lazer 103.3. For every Sunday game Subway and Star 102.5 FM offer a combo pack starting at $12. The combo pack includes one ticket, one hot dog, one soda, and one subway coupon.

Fans may purchase single-game tickets multiple ways, either through the team's website – www.Iowawild.com, the Wells Fargo Arena box office or participating Hy-Vee food stores. Tickets are available online at www.Iowawild.com under the single game tickets tab. The Wells Fargo Arena box office is open Monday – Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and closed on Sunday. For Saturday game days, the box office will open at 10 a.m. For Sunday game days the box office will open at 12 p.m. Fans may also purchase tickets by calling 1-844-55-HYVEE or by visiting participating Hy-Vee food stores locations in the greater Des Moines area. The Iowa Wild 2015-16 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team’s 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena. Season tickets to see the Wild play its 2015-16 season at Wells Fargo Arena start at just $9 per game.
