Rockford IceHogs (5-3-0-1, 11 points) at Iowa Wild (3-5-1-1, 8 points)

Iowa and Rockford meet for the third of 12 meetings this season. Each team will host six games this season, including the next meeting at Iowa on Nov. 1. Rockford has taken the first two meetings of the year, including a 4-0 decision in Rockford on Friday night. The IceHogs have not played since Friday, while Iowa plays its third game in three days, coming off a 3-2 overtime win at home on Saturday against Milwaukee. The two teams played eight times in 2014-15, with Rockford taking six of the eight meetings.  The Hogs were 3-1-0-0 in Des Moines last year against the Wild, outscoring Iowa 12-11. Overall, Rockford is 14-5-0-1 in 20 all-time meetings, including a 6-3-0-0 mark at Wells Fargo Arena. Iowa is 6-13-1-0 all-time and 3-6-0-0 at home.  

Iowa is 2-2-1-1 at home this season, having been outscored 20-14 by the visitors. The Wild is 3-3-1-0 over its last seven games. In 2014-15, Iowa was 10-26-1-1 at home, getting outscored 123-86. Iowa plays it’s second of five straight at home and eight of the next nine at Wells Fargo Arena. Rockford is 2-1-0-0 on the road this season, outscored 11-8 by the home teams. Last year, Rockford was 22-14-1-1 on the road, outscoring the home teams 101-88.

Last Time Out

The Iowa Wild defeated the Milwaukee Admirals 3-2 in overtime in front of 4,145 fans at Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday night. Rookie defenseman Mike Reilly scored 3:51 into overtime, breaking a 2-2 tie and propelling the Wild past the Admirals. Wild goalie Jeremy Smith stopped 40 of 42 shots for his first victory. Forward Brett Sutter and defenseman Joe Finley also scored in the Iowa win.  Milwaukee goalie Marek Mazanec made 22 saves on 25 shots in the defeat. Forwards Max Gortz and Colton Sissons both tallied regulation goals for the Admirals.

Iowa Wild

Rookie winger Christoph Bertschy and Michael Keranen lead the Wild in scoring with six points in ten games. Bertschy and Keranen are also tied for the team lead with four assists each. Defensemen Mike Reilly and Maxime Fortunus are tied for third on the club with four points each. Reilly leads all defensemen with two goals, while Fortunus is tied with Gustav Olofsson for the lead among defensemen with three assists. Forwards Brady Brassart and Matt Carey round of the top scorers with three points each. The team is without Jordan Schroeder, who remains on NHL call up to Minnesota.  He has five points in eight games prior to going to the NHL.

Goalie Jeremy Smith (1-4-1) is among the league leaders with 232 saves through six games played. He has a 3.12 GAA and a .924 SV%. Leland Irving has made four appearances, going 2-1-1 with a 2.19 GAA and a .934 SV%.

Iowa ranks 24th after going 5-for-41 (12.2%) on the power play. The team is 40-for-45 (88.9%) on the penalty kill - sixth in the AHL.

Rockford IceHogs

Rockford is missing leading scorer Tanner Kero, who was recalled to Chicago on Tuesday. He left after potting six goals and totaling eight points in seven games. The team’s active leading scorer is center Mark Dano, with six assists and seven points in nine games. Left wing Jeremy Morin is second in points with six in eight games played off two goals and four assists. Ville Pokka leads all defenseman in points with four assists in nine games.

Rockford goalie Michael Leighton (5-2-1) has started the last five games, going 4-0-1-0. For the season, Leighton has posted 2.44 goals against average and a .913 SV %. Mark Visentin has played in one game, going 0-1-0 with a 7.02 GAA and a .767 SV %.

Rockford sits 30th in the league after going 3-for-39 (7.7%) on the power play. The Hogs are 39-for-49 (79.6%) on the penalty kill placing 23rd in the league.
