With a combination of funds raised from the live jersey auction, a raffle, ticket sales and chuck-a-puck, this year's Pink in the Rink generated $31,818, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Komen of Iowa. This marks the third straight season the Iowa Wild and Komen of Iowa have partnered to top the $30,000-mark in fundraising.

"Once again, Pink in the Rink was a great success", said Iowa Wild President Todd Frederickson. "As in hockey, teamwork is the key to success and we could not have done this without the help from our players, fans and partners. Finding a cure remains a top priority and the Wild takes pride in helping raise awareness and funds to support that cause."

In all, the team is closing in on $100,000 generated for Komen of Iowa over the last three years. The live postgame jersey auction was the primary source of funds raised, totaling over $28,000. Forward Marc Hagel’s jersey produced the top bid at $2,600. Per tradition, the team welcomed over 10,000 fans for the unique and popular event at Wells Fargo Arena held on Feb. 12.

“Our partnership with the Iowa Wild is critical in our ongoing fight against breast cancer”, said Susan G. Komen of Iowa Special Events Coordinator Derek Johnson. “Unfortunately, there are all too many people who have been impacted by this disease. The funding from this event helps ensure women, and men, right here in Iowa receive the screening, diagnosis, and treatment services they need, and also supports ground-breaking research at the national level.  We could not be more grateful for the continued support from the Iowa Wild organization.”

Susan G. Komen Iowa is dedicated to combating breast cancer at every front. Up to 75 percent of the affiliate’s net income goes toward funding grants to local hospitals and community organizations that provide breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs for medically underserved women. The remaining net income (a minimum of 25 percent) supports the national Komen Grants Program.
