IOWA DOWNS LAKE ERIE 2-1 IN A SHOOTOUT

Curry Shines in Victory With 32 Saves

Cleveland, OH  – The Iowa Wild (22-19-6-4, 54 points) defeated the Lake Erie Monsters (21-24-0-5, 47 points) 2-1 in a shootout in front of 11,055 fans at Quicken Loans Arena on Friday night.  Wild goalie John Curry (7-4-2) made 32 saves in regulation and stopped all four Monsters attempts for the shootout win. Defenseman Steven Kampfer and forward Carson McMillan scored in the shootout to help Iowa secure the extra point. Kampfer also scored Iowa’s lone regulation goal, helping his club end a three-game winless skid (0-2-1-0). Monsters goalie Sami Aittokallio (10-11-2) stopped 34 of 35 Iowa shots in regulation and three of five attempts in the shootout loss. Iowa has three straight wins over Lake Erie this season. The Wild plays at 6 p.m. (CT) on Saturday in a rematch with the Lake Erie Monsters, concluding the team’s three-game road trip.  

The teams traded goals in the game’s opening period, as Lake Erie struck for the first goal of the night. Lake Erie forward Andrew Agozzino stole the puck in the Iowa zone and moved in alone on goalie John Curry. Agozzino snapped a wrist shot past Curry for his 11th goal of the season for the 1-0 lead at 8:58. Iowa used its power play to tie the game 1-1, with defenseman Steven Kampfer potting his fifth tally of the year. Defenseman Brian Connelly and winger Brett Bulmer each had an assist on Iowa’s opening goal at 11:45.

After a scoreless second and third period, the two teams went to a shootout. Iowa forward Carson McMillan scored in the second round and defenseman Steven Kampfer sealed it with a goal in the fifth round. Goalie John Curry was perfect in the shootout, stopping all four Lake Eriie shootout attempts.

The Wild concludes a three-game road trip with a one more game at Lake Erie on Saturday at 6 p.m. (CT). Iowa returns home on Tuesday, Feb. 25 for a 5:35 p.m. faceoff with Rockford. The game is a $2 Tuesday, where fans can purchase any level ticket with a $2 discount. 200 Level seats will be available for $2 to the first 200 fans to purchase upper level seats. Patrons will also be able to purchase $2 sodas, $2 popcorns, and $2 10-ounce domestic drafts (21 and older) – through the first period of play. Also, select merchandise items will be available for only $2. The team then hosts the Rochester Americans at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27.
