Iowa Heads to North Dakota For Preseason Games on Friday and Saturday

DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild held its Green and White scrimmage on Wednesday night in front of hundreds of season ticket holders at Wells Fargo Arena. Team White defeated Team Green 2-0 thanks to goals from Dylan Labbe and Brady Brassart. The split-squad scrimmage was played over two 25-minute halves as opposed to the usual three periods with four goaltenders making an appearance. The two teams also participated in a full-team shootout to conclude the scrimmage. Leland Irving and Adam Morrison combined for a 34-shot shutout, and Brody Hoffman and Steven Michalek combined for 22 saves on 24 shots. Iowa heads to North Dakota for a pair of preseason games with the Manitoba Moose, starting on Friday at 7 p.m. in Grand Forks.

Team White opened up the scoring at 13:05 of the first half. Defenseman Dylan Labbe scored on a wrist shot with assists from Marc Hagel and Kurtis Gabriel. Labbe received a pass from Hagel in the slot and beat goaltender Brody Hoffman, low on the blocker side. Teams swapped opportunities for the rest of the half but it would be the lone goal that Hoffman would allow on the night. Team White goaltender Adam Morrison held a shutout for the first half.

Team White wasted no time building its lead in the second half. Center Brady Brassart scored just 1:07 into the second half, giving Team White a 2-0 lead. Brassart flew down the left side of the ice after taking a pass from Christoph Bertschy. He fired a wrist shot past goaltender, Steven Michalek, sneaking it under the crossbar and into the upper-right corner. Team White goaltender Leland Irving preserved the shutout by keeping Team Green off the scoreboard in the second frame.
