Wild Begins Road Trip in Chicago on Sunday

DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild (3-13-1-2) were defeated by the Lake Erie Monsters (10-3-0-2) 3-2 in front of 4,389 fans Saturday afternoon at Wells Fargo Arena. Lake Erie forward Derek DeBlois scored at 7:57 of the third period, breaking a 2-2 tie and lifting the Monsters past the Wild. Lake Erie goalie Anton Forsberg (6-2-0) stopped 19 of 21 shots for his sixth win of the season. Forwards Daniel Zaar and Ryan Craig each scored in the Monsters fourth straight win. Iowa goalie Jeremy Smith (1-8-1) made 35 saves on 38 shots in the team’s winless streak reached nine games.Forwards Andrew Yogan and Grayson Downing each scored a goal in a losing effort. Wild travels to Chicago for a 4 p.m. puck drop with the Wolves on Sunday.

Iowa forward Andrew Yogan opened the scoring at 13:28 of the first period, giving the Wild a 1-0 lead. Forward Jared Knight and defenseman Tyson Strachan each picked up an assist on the goal. Yogan pick-pocketed a Monsters defender following a stretch pass from Strachan, carrying the puck into the offensive zone. The forward blasted a slap shot from the left face-off circle, sneaking the puck inside the far post for his first goal of the season. Monsters forward Ryan Craig tied the game 1-1 at 14:09 of the period. Forwards Alex Broadhurst and Daniel Zaar each earned an assist on the play. Broadhurst carried the puck into the zone on a 3-on-2 break, feeding Craig the puck just inside the blue line. Craig blasted a low one-timer past Smith and off the right post for his fourth goal of the season.

Wild forward Grayson Downing scored 50 seconds into the second period, giving the Wild a 2-1. Forwards Christoph Bertschy and Michael Keranen each tallied an assist on the goal. Keranen and forward Brady Brassart bottled up the Monsters defense on the forcheck, causing a turnover. Bertschy picked up the puck and fed Downing in front of the net. Downing moved the puck to his backhand and shelved it over Forsberg for his fourth goal of the season. Lake Erie right wing Daniel Zaar scored at 19:58 of the second period, tying the game 2-2. Broadhurst and Craig each tallied an assist on the goal. Craig threw a no-look pass to the slot from behind the net. Zaar one-timed the pass, sliding the puck past Smith for his fourth goal of the season.

Lake Erie forward Derek DeBlois scored at 7:57 of the third period, giving the Monsters a 3-2 lead. Defenseman Justin Falk and forward T.J. Tynan each earned an assist on the goal. Falk fired a shot through traffic in front of the net. DeBlois got a piece of the puck, redirecting the shot out of mid-air. The puck floated over Smith and into the net for DeBlois’s first goal of the season.

The Wild begins a six-game road trip on Sunday, making stops in Chicago, Grand Rapids, Charlotte, and Lake Erie before returning home on Tuesday, Dec. 8 for a game against the Chicago Wolves. Kids (12 and under) eat free on Tuesday with a “Crash’s Kids Meal” courtesy of 96.5 Country of iHeartMedia Des Moines. The meal includes one hot dog, one soda, one popcorn, one fruit snack, and one Iowa Wild prize. It’s also a Taco Tuesday, where each fan receives a coupon for a free taco from Taco John’s upon entering the arena.

The Wells Fargo Arena box office is open Monday – Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and closed on Sunday. For Saturday game days, the box office will open at 10 a.m. For Sunday game days the box office will open at 12 p.m. Fans may also purchase tickets by calling 1-844-55-HYVEE or by visiting participating Hy-Vee food stores locations in the greater Des Moines area. The Iowa Wild 2015-16 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team’s 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena.
