MINNESOTA NAMES SCOTT STEVENS ASSISTANT COACH

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher on Tuesday announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has named Scott Stevens an assistant coach.

Stevens most recently served as an analyst for NHL Network. He returns to coaching after being named a co-coach for the New Jersey Devils on Dec. 27, 2014, and serving two seasons (2012-14) as an assistant coach for the Devils. The defenseman spent 13 of his 22 NHL seasons with New Jersey and captained the team to three Stanley Cup Championships (1995, 2000, and 2003). The Kitchener, Ont., native was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on Nov. 12, 2007.

Stevens collected 908 points (196-712=908), 2,785 penalty minutes (PIM) and was a plus-393 in 1,635 career NHL games with Washington, St. Louis and New Jersey before retiring on Sept. 6, 2005. His games played total are the second-most by a defenseman in NHL history and seventh all-time. Stevens appeared in 879 regular-season games in which his team was victorious, the second-most in NHL history (Chelios, 894) and ranks 14th all-time in PIM. He added 118 points (26-92=118), 402 PIM and a plus-46 rating in 233 career playoff games and ranks third all-time in NHL history in playoff games by a defenseman. His 20 years in the playoffs are tied for third all-time.

Stevens was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team in 1983, to the NHL First All-Star Team in 1988 and 1994, to the NHL Second All-Star Team in 1992, 1997 and 2001, to 13 NHL All-Star Games (1985, 1989, 1991-94, 1996-01, 2003) and became the seventh defenseman to win the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP in 2000. He played for Canada at the 1998 Winter Olympics, 1996 World Cup, 1991 Canada Cup and four World Championships (1983, 1985, 1987 and 1989). Stevens won the Memorial Cup with Kitchener Rangers in 1981-82, before being selected fifth overall by Washington in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft.

The 2016-17 regular season schedule will be announced late in the summer and single game tickets for the 2016-17 regular season will go on sale in September. The Wells Fargo Arena box office is open Monday – Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and closed on Sunday.
