Bertschy Summoned to NHL, Gabriel Returns

DES MOINES, IA – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher announced on Monday the National Hockey League (NHL) club has assigned forward Kurtis Gabriel to the Iowa Wild, Minnesota’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate. Fletcher also announced the club has recalled right wing Christoph Bertschy (Burr-chee) from Iowa.


Bertschy, 22 (4/5/94), has registered one assist in five games with Minnesota and 15 points (8-7=15) in 36 games with Iowa this season. He ranks second on Iowa with 96 shots on goal. The 5-foot-10, 186-pound native of Fribourg, Switzerland, notched his first career NHL point with an assist against Dallas on Oct. 29, 2016. Bertschy has recorded one assist in eight career NHL contests with the Wild. He was selected by Minnesota in the sixth round (158th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Gabriel, 23 (4/20/93), has collected one assist, 29 penalty minutes (PIM) and 26 hits in 13 games with Minnesota this season. The 6-foot-4, 211-pound native of Newmarket, Ont., recorded his first career NHL point with an assist on Dec. 7 at Toronto and ranks third on the team in PIM. He owns one assist and 39 PIM in 16 career NHL contests with Minnesota. Gabriel has tallied seven points (6-1=7) including one shorthanded goal and 40 PIM in 25 games with Iowa this season. He ranks among Iowa’s all-time leaders for games played and penalty minutes. Over the last four years, Gabriel has played in 166 AHL games, scoring 21 goals and totaling 37 assists. He ranks first in team history with 317 career penalty minutes.


Iowa embarks on a lengthy road trip and returns home on Wednesday, Feb. 8 to play the Cleveland Monsters. The game is part of Winning Wednesdays. If the Wild wins, all fans in attendance get a free ticket to a future Wild home game. Fans 21 and older may purchase two tallboys for $10. Fans may also bring a Subway receipt to purchase a ticket for only $5.

Iowa welcomes the Grand Rapids Griffins on Friday, Feb. 10 at 7 PM at Wells Fargo Arena. The Wild celebrates Local Heroes Night with a salute to the Des Moines Police Department and the Urbandale Police Department. Fans may enjoy a $2 Beer Night, presented by 100.3 The Bus. There will also be Barefoot Wine specials at the game. Collegeville packs are also available for purchase for the game. The Wild is hosting a food drive, presented by Billion Buick GMC and Barilla.  The drive benefits MovetheFood,org.
