HAMILTON’S THIRD PERIOD SURGE SINKS IOWA 5-3

Wild Hits the Road With Four Straight, Returns Home Feb. 13

DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild (15-29-1-1, 32 points) were defeated by the Hamilton Bulldogs (22-17-6-0, 50 points) 5-3 in front of 5,952 fans on Saturday at Wells Fargo Arena. Forward Jacob de la Rose and defenseman Davis Drewiske scored a 1:43 apart from each other in the midway through the third period, erasing a 3-2 deficit and lifting Hamilton past Iowa. Forwards Drayson Bowman, Eric Tangradi and Sahir Gill also scored for the Bulldogs in the road win. Hamilton goalie Joey MacDonald (7-7-3) made 28 saves on 31 shots to preserve the victory. Forwards Zack Mitchell, Michael Keranen and Tyler Graovac each scored for Iowa in the loss. Iowa goalie John Curry (8-10-0) stopped 32 of 36 shots in the defeat. Iowa visits Adirondack at 6 p.m. (CT) on Feb. 4 to begin a four-game road trip.

The Wild opened up the scoring 13:45 into the first period with a goal from forward Zack Mitchell. Mitchell deflected a one-timer from defenseman Justin Falk past Hamilton goalie Joey MacDonald. Mitchell’s 13th goal of the season was assisted by Falk and center Tyler Graovac for the 1-0 Wild lead. The Bulldogs drew even when forward Drayson Bowman scored on a wrist shot at the 18:13 mark of the period. Bowman’s eighth goal this year was set up by forward T.J. Hensick and defenseman Darren Dietz, tying the game at 1-1.

Iowa recaptured the lead 4:16 into the second period with a goal from forward Michael Keranen. He redirected a pass from forward Jordan Schroeder for his seventh goal this season and the 2-1 Iowa lead. Hamilton forward Sahir Gill tied the game 2-2 when he scored at the 10:32 mark of the period. Gill’s second goal this year was unassisted.

In the third period, the Wild regained the lead with a shorthanded goal from forward Tyler Graovac 39 seconds into the period. Schroeder assisted Graovac on his 16th goal this season for the 3-2 Iowa lead. Rookie forward Jacob de la Rose scored at the 11:15 mark of the period, tying the game 3-3. Merely 1:43 later, rookie defenseman Darren Dietz scored when he fired a slap shot past Iowa goalie John Curry. Dietz’s fourth goal of the year was assisted by de la Rose and forward Eric Tangradi, giving Hamilton a 4-3 lead at 12:58. Hamilton expanded its lead when Tangradi scored an empty-net goal with 52 seconds left to play. Tangradi’s third goal this year was set up by Drewiske for the 5-3 final.

Iowa embarks on a four-game road trip with stops in Hamilton, Toronto and Adirondack beginning on Feb. 4. The Wild returns home at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13 to face the Texas Stars, the start of a three-game home stand. Before Friday’s game, the Wild is holding a Career Fair from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the Career Fair is free, and any participants taking part in the fair receives a free ticket to Friday’s game. On Saturday Feb. 14, Iowa hosts Texas and is celebrating Pink in The Rink. The first 7,500 fans at Saturday’s game receive a pink LED light, presented by Susan G. Komen of Iowa and 1700 The Champ. As part of Pink In The Rink, Iowa dons pink-in-the-rink themed specialty jerseys. After the game, the team is holding a live postgame jersey auction, with the proceeds benefitting Susan G. Komen of Iowa. Fans may purchase the Brewdog Pack, presented by Legends American Grill. The package starts at $15 per fan, consisting of a ticket, a Wild puck, a hot dog and a beer at the game. Fans also receive a beer at Legends American Grill – downtown location.

Iowa finishes its three-game home stand at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb.15 against the Oklahoma City Barons. Sunday’s game is Crash’s birthday party, where the team celebrates with a superhero and mascot party. Numerous local mascots and super heroes will be on hand to help ring in Crash’s big day. The first 1,500 fans at Sunday’s game will receive an Iowa Wild insulated lunch bag, sponsored by Star 102.5. Fans may purchase the More 104 Subway Combo Pack, which starts at $12 per person, including a ticket, a hot dog, a soda and a Subway coupon.

The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team’s 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena. Season tickets to see the Wild play at Wells Fargo Arena start at just $9 per game.
