WILD BLASTS AMERICANS IN 6-0 WHITEWASH

Iowa’s Winless Skid at Home Comes to Halt

DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild (22-43-2-2, 48 points) defeated the Rochester Americans (27-36-5-1, 60 points) 6-0 in front of 5,929 fans on Friday night at Wells Fargo Arena. Iowa goalie John Curry (12-19-2) made 21 saves in the win, recording his first shutout and the team’s first shutout at home this season. Defenseman Joel Chouinard led the way, scoring twice in the contest. Forwards Tyler Graovac, Brady Brassart and Jared Knight, along with defenseman Stu Bickel also scored in the Wild victory. With the win, Iowa snaps a 14-game home losing streak, dating back to Jan. 18. Rochester goalie Pat Nagle (1-3-0) made 31 saves in the loss. Iowa hosts the Texas Stars at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 7.

Iowa opened the scoring 1:23 into the first period when forward Tyler Graovac fired a snapshot past Rochester goalie Pat Nagle. Defenseman Jon Blum assisted Graovac on his 21st goal this season, giving the Wild a 1-0 lead. Iowa widened the gap when defenseman Joel Chouinard scored at the 10:32 mark. Chouinard launched a backhander into the net on a breakaway, scoring his fourth goal this year. Rookie forward Zack Mitchell aided Chouinard on the play for the 2-0 lead.

Iowa extended its lead at 12:36 of the second period when defenseman Stu Bickel scored. Bickel fired the puck into net, beating Nagle to make it 3-0 Wild. Forwards Brett Bulmer and Michael Keranen assisted Bickel on his third goal this year. Iowa scored 24 seconds later when rookie forward Brady Brassart found the back of the net for his seventh goal of the year 13:00 into the period. Stephane Veilleux and rookie forward Kurtis Gabriel aided Brassart for the 4-0 lead.

In the third period, Iowa added another tally when forward Jared Knight scored at the 4:41 mark. Forwards Pavel Jenys and Brett Sutter assisted Knight for his third goal this season, giving the Wild a 5-0 lead. Chouinard scored his second goal of the night 15:37 into the period on a power play. Chouinard shot a rebound into the net for his fifth goal of the year. Keranen and rookie defenseman Zach Palmquist aided Chouinard for the 6-0 final.

Iowa continues its four-game home stand against the Texas Stars at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April. 7. It’s a Taco Tuesday – presented by Taco Johns, where each fan that comes to the game receives a coupon for a free crispy beef taco from Taco Johns. It’s also two-for-one Tuesday, where fans may purchase one attack end ticket and receive a second ticket free, sponsored by Hits 99.9 FM. Also, those who bring in a Subway receipt may purchase a $5 game ticket at the box office. 

Iowa hosts the Rockford IceHogs at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Apr. 9. It’s a Throwback Thursday, where fans may purchase popcorn for one dollar, presented by 95 KGGO. Also, those who bring in a Subway receipt may purchase a $5 ticket at the box office. Iowa finishes its home stand against Oklahoma City at 7 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 10. It’s Fan Appreciation night featuring a team poster giveaway to the first 5,000 fans, sponsored by Mercy Medical Center, Prairie Life Fitness, Edwards Printing and MB2 Raceway. The team is also holding a Chuck-a-Duck at Friday’s game, where fans may purchase rubber ducks to throw on the ice during intermission. All proceeds from the event go to benefit the Youth Emergency Shelter and Services. It’s also STEM Night, where a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to the student who designs the best helmet to reduce concussions for hockey players, presented by Des Moines University. It’s also a $2 Beer Night, presented by 100.3 The Bus. Fans may purchase 10-ounce domestic beers for only $2 through the first period of play.
