BRENT FLAHR NAMED GENERAL MANAGER OF THE IOWA WILD

NHL Club Tabs A New GM For the AHL Club

DES MOINES, IA – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has named Brent Flahr the General Manager of the American Hockey League’s Iowa Wild.

Flahr also serves as Assistant General Manager of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild, entering his seventh season with the organization having been named to his position on July 28, 2009. In addition to his duties in Minnesota, the longtime NHLer will oversee all aspects of Iowa Wild hockey operations, from player contracts to the development of Minnesota Wild prospects.

In Minnesota, he is responsible for overseeing all aspects of player development and evaluation, and assists General Manager Chuck Fletcher in player personnel decisions, contract negotiations, and league-related issues. Flahr oversees the organization’s preparation for and the selection of players at the NHL Entry Draft. During his tenure, Minnesota has drafted Jonas Brodin, Matt Dumba, Joel Eriksson Ek, Mikael Granlund, Gustav Olofsson, Alex Tuch and Jason Zucker.

Before his time with the Wild, Flahr spent two seasons (2007-09) with the Ottawa Senators as Director of Hockey Operations. Prior to joining the Senators, he spent four seasons (2003-07) working as an Amateur Scout for the Anaheim Ducks, including the 2007 Stanley Cup team. From 1996 to 2003, Flahr spent eight seasons as part of the Florida Panthers organization, serving in a variety of positions, including Assistant to the General Manager, and Scouting and Video Coordinator. He was also the Director of Hockey Operations for the Panthers’ AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage. Flahr has worked with Chuck Fletcher two times previously, spending three seasons with him in Anaheim and six seasons in Florida.

The native of Courtenay, B.C., is a graduate of Princeton University, where he played four seasons of college hockey for the Tigers from 1992-96. He and his wife, Dana, reside in Saint Paul.

The Green-White game is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Arena with a split-squad scrimmage of Iowa Wild players. The game features two (2) 30-minute running clock halves with a short intermission in between the two periods. Fans are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to gain entrance to the game. The items will be donated to the Bidwell Riverside Center.

The Iowa Wild plays a pair of preseason games, both will be in North Dakota against the Manitoba Moose -the Winnipeg Jets AHL club. Iowa and Manitoba meet in Grand Forks, ND on Fri. Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. The two teams will play a second preseason game in Fargo, ND on Sat. Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. 

Iowa begins its third season in the AHL this fall. The team will host Opening Night on Saturday, Oct. 10. Fans may purchase single-game tickets multiple ways, either through the team's website – www.Iowawild.com, the Wells Fargo Arena box office or participating Hy-Vee food stores. Tickets are available online at www.Iowawild.com under the single game tickets tab. The Wells Fargo Arena box office is open Monday – Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and closed on Sunday. For Saturday game days, the box office will open at 10 a.m. For Sunday game days the box office will open at 12 p.m. Fans may also purchase tickets by calling 1-844-55-HYVEE or by visiting participating Hy-Vee food stores locations in the greater Des Moines area. The Iowa Wild 2015-16 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team’s 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena. Season tickets to see the Wild play its 2015-16 season at Wells Fargo Arena start at just $9 per game.
