Iowa closes out its 3-in-3 with an afternoon matinee against the Ontario Reign. Iowa has yet to earn a win at Citizens Business Bank Arena, as the Wild is 0-2-2-0 in Ontario. The Wild is in third place in the Central Division with 70 points, while the Reign is in last place in the Pacific with 45 points.
The Wild fell to the Reign Saturday evening in overtime by a score of 5-4. Forward Kyle Rau recorded his second hat trick of the season with forward Mason Shaw registering the other tally. Late in the third period and into overtime, the Reign scored four goals while on a power play for a major penalty, flipping Iowa’s 4-1 lead to a 5-4 victory for Ontario. Goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen stopped 49 of 54 shots in the contest.
Goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen’s 49 saves set a new career-high and is the second most saves by a Wild netminder this season.
Forward Kyle Rau’s hat trick marked the first time in team history a player recorded three goals or more twice in a single season.
Rau’s four-point night set a new career-high for the forward.
Iowa’s three power-play goals allowed in the third period against Ontario was a franchise record in a single period.
Ontario’s win Saturday extended the team’s win streak to three games, the longest of the season for the Reign.
Forward Matt Moulson currently has a three-game point streak, recording six points (3g, 3a) during that stretch.
Forward Zack Mitchell recorded his first goal against his former team Saturday evening.
Forward Brett Sutter recorded his second consecutive three-point night Saturday evening for the first time in his career.
