METRO ICE SPORTS NOMINATED FOR FREE LIGHTING SYSTEM

Jan 15, 2018

DES MOINES, IOWA – Metro Ice Sports in Urbandale, Iowa was named a quarterfinalist for the “Light Like the Pros” promotion, sponsored by the AHL and Eaton. The winning rink will receive a free Ephesus LED sports lighting system, valued at more than $50,000.

With two full sheets and plenty of room for spectators, Metro Ice Sports was the premier destination for hockey fans in Des Moines. However, after some hardships, the rink was forced to close in early 2013. Later that year, two local hockey enthusiasts re-opened the rink facility with a vision to make it a hub for elite hockey in the Iowa region.

Four years later, Metro Ice Sports serves as the practice facility of the Iowa Wild and is the home for Iowa Wild AAA Hockey, Des Moines Oak Leafs High School Hockey, Des Moines Adult Hockey, Des Moines Figure Skating Club, Des Moines Curling Club and Des Moines Youth Hockey.

A new Ephesus LED lighting system would help Metro Ice Sports take a major step forward in the sustained restoration project of the rink and continue its vision of becoming a Midwest hub for elite hockey.

Voting for the quarterfinals closes Feb. 2, with additional voting taking place throughout February and into March. The winning rink will be announced on March 20.
