2019 – Central Division Semifinals Game 5: Iowa Wild (2) at Milwaukee Admirals (1)

This was the way it was supposed to go. The Wild and Admirals, after finishing the season with just one point separating the two teams, had to battle it out in a do-or-die Game 5. Iowa won the first two games in dominating fashion, outscoring Milwaukee 13-1 in Des Moines to take a 2-0 series lead, but the Admirals clawed back with wins in Games 3 and 4, the latter coming in overtime. In the series finale, Cal O’Reilly gave the Wild a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the first period, rifling a shot past goaltender Troy Grosenick on the power-play. The Admirals then answered midway through the second period, recording a power-play goal off the stick of Anthony Richard, setting up the third period with the score tied. But it was defenseman Louie Belpedio who played hero as his shot midway through the third bounced off the end boards and behind Grosenick just enough to cross the goal line. His tally stood as the game-winner and the Wild earned the organization’s first-ever playoff series win on this date in 2019.
