Iowa Welcomes Charlotte to Town For Pair of Weekend Games

DES MOINES, IA  – The Iowa Wild (11-27-3-3, 28 points) were defeated by the Chicago Wolves (20-18-1-2, 43 points) 4-3 in overtime in front of 3,318 fans at Wells Fargo Arena on Tuesday night. Wolves forward Pat Cannone capped off a hat trick 41-seconds into overtime, leading the Wolves past the Wild with a four-point night. Forward Jared Caron scored the other Chicago goal, tying the game late in the third period. Goalie Jordan Binnington (9-6-2) made 31 saves on 34 shots in the victory. Defenseman Christian Folin, as well as forwards Michael Keranen and Tyler Graovac, each scored as Iowa salvaged a point in the OT defeat. Goalie Jeremy Smith (4-13-3) made 38 saves on 42 shots in the loss. The Wild hosts the Charlotte Checkers at 7 P.M. on Friday night.

The Wolves grabbed a 1-0 lead when forward Pat Cannone scored at 3:10 of the second period. Defenseman Peter Harrold and forward Danny Kristo each tallied an assist on the opening goal. Harrold pushed the puck up the ice with a pass to Kristo through the neutral zone. Kristo kicked puck onto his stick and fed a cross-ice pass to Cannone. The center took a low wrist shot from the right circle, beating goalie Jeremy Smith for his 14th goal of the season. Wild forward Michael Keranen tied the game 1-1 at 12:31 of the second period. Forward Rob Bordson and defenseman Gustav Olofsson each picked up an assist on the power-play goal. Bordson fed a pass down low to Keranen from the right boards. Keranen drifted to the side of the goal and backhanded the puck over goalie Jordan Binnington’s shoulder for his seventh goal of the season. Cannone scored his second goal of the night at 15:11 of the period, retaining a 2-1 lead for the Wolves. Kristo tallied his second assist on the goal and forward Jordan Caron picked up an additional assist. Kristo attempted to stuff in a wraparound shot but goalie Jeremy Smith made the initial save. Caron one-timed the rebound into the back of the net for his 15th goal of the season.

Wild defenseman Christian Folin tied the game 2-2 at 10:07 of the third period. Defenseman Mike Reilly and forward Jordan Schroeder each tallied an assist on the power-play goal. Schroeder and Folin passed the puck back-and-forth on the right side of the offensive zone before Folin ripped a slapshot past Binnington for his third goal of the season. Forward Tyler Graovac gave the Wild its first lead of the game at 12:23 of the period. Defensemen Tyler Strachan and Christian Folin each tallied an assist on the goal. Strachan started the play, hitting Graovac with a stretch pass from inside the Wild blueline. Graovac flew into the zone, moving the puck from his backhand to his forehand. The forward beat Binnington over his shoulder for his second goal of the season, giving Iowa a 3-2 lead. Wolves forward Jordan Caron tied the game 3-3 at 17:41 of the period. Defenseman Chris Butler and Cannone each picked up an assist on the power-play goal. Caron scored off of a Butler rebound from in front of the net, tying the game with his 14th goal of the season.

Wolves forward Pat Cannone scored 41 seconds into overtime, giving the Wolves a 4-3 victory. Cannone walked into the offensive zone and beat Smith with a slapshot, banking the puck off the cross bar and into the net for his 16th goal of the season.

The Wild plays two games against the in Rockford on Friday and Saturday night. Iowa returns home on Jan. 26 for a game against the Chicago Wolves at 7 P.M. Tuesday’s game features a Crash’s Kids Meal for every kid under the age of 12 courtesy of 96.5 Country of iHeartMedia Des Moines. Crash’s Kids Meal includes one hot dog, one soda, one popcorn, one fruit snack, and one wild prize. The game is also a “Taco Tuesday” presented by Taco John’s. Iowa hosts the Charlotte Checkers for a pair of games on Friday, Jan. 29 and Saturday, Jan. 30. Friday’s game is Military Appreciation Night. The first 1,500 fans (12-years old and under) receive an Iowa Wild patriotic jersey courtesy of Scheels and KISS FM. Friday is also $2 beer night sponsored by 100.3 The Bus. ‘Bring Your Buds Bundle’ will also be available for purchase, including one ticket, one 16 oz. Budweiser or Bud Light at the game, one hot dog, one popcorn, $1 off a Budweiser or Bud Light at the game, and one free Budweiser or Bud Light at Carl’s Place. Saturday’s game is John Torchetti Bobblehead Day, sponsored by NASH FM and NASH ICON. The first 1,500 fans receive a bobblehead of Coach Torchetti. Fans may also purchase the Brewdog Pack, which includes one ticket, one beer, one hotdog, and one free Budweiser or Bud Light at the Legends American Grill. There will also be Subway and Star 102.5 combo packs available for purchase. Starting at $12, the pack includes one ticket, one hot dog, one soda, and one Subway coupon.

The Wells Fargo Arena box office is open Monday – Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and closed on Sunday.
