This unique and popular event, designed to raise awareness about breast cancer and generate funds for Susan G. Komen of Iowa, has raised more than $65,000 in live auctions over the past two years. As a tradition, the players wear Pink colored jerseys, available in a live auction after the game. Each of the past two seasons, Pink in the Rink night has been well attended with over 10,000 fans in 2014 and nearly 10,000 in 2015.

"The Iowa Wild is proud to partner with Susan G. Komen of Iowa for the third straight year with our annual Pink in the Rink night", said Iowa Wild President Todd Frederickson. "The past two seasons have set the bar pretty high in terms of donations and attendance. It means a lot for the Wild organization to lend a hand in our community through our fundraising efforts and help give back to central Iowa. It's difficult to find someone who has not been affected by any type of cancer and finding a cure remains a top priority. We take pride in helping raise awareness and funds to support that cause."

Iowa hosts its third annual Pink in the Rink Night on Saturday in a partnership with Susan G. Komen of Iowa. Fans are encouraged to wear pink in order to “PINKOUT”, and raise awareness and funds in a fight against breast cancer. The first 1,000 fans to the game receive a free Pink in the Rink Iowa Wild pink shirt, courtesy of Kiss1075 FM. Friday’s game includes a shootout challenge and a ceremonial-puck drop highlighted by breast cancer survivors. There is also a special lighting ceremony.

To lead the charge in fundraising efforts, the team will wear specialty Pink-in-the-Rink Themed jerseys for the duration of the game. After the game, fans may bid on their favorites player’s game-worn jersey in a live jersey auction, which starts within 10 minutes of the conclusion of the game. All fans are welcome to participate in the postgame auction. Each auction winner will meet the player, take a picture and get an autograph, to go along with the pink jersey.

“Our partnership with the Iowa Wild is critical in our ongoing fight against breast cancer”, said Susan G. Komen of Iowa Special Events Coordinator Derek Johnson. “Unfortunately, there are all too many people who have been impacted by this disease. The funding from this event helps ensure women, and men, right here in Iowa receive the screening, diagnosis, and treatment services they need, and also supports ground-breaking research at the national level.  We could not be more grateful for the continued support from the Iowa Wild organization.”

Susan G. Komen Iowa is dedicated to combating breast cancer at every front. Up to 75 percent of the Affiliate’s net income goes toward funding grants to local hospitals and community organizations that provide breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs for medically underserved women. The remaining net income (a minimum of 25 percent) supports the national Komen Grants Program.

The Wild returns home next weekend for a pair of games against the Grand Rapids Griffins, beginning with Pink in the Rink on Friday, Feb. 12. Iowa is teaming up with Susan G.
