Iowa and Chicago Rematch Saturday Afternoon

DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild (21-37-4-4, 50 points) were defeated by the Chicago Wolves (29-30-5-3, 66 points) 3-2 in front of 5,811 fans at Wells Fargo Arena on Friday night. A power-play goal from Wolves defenseman Andre Benoit with 1:32 left in regulation served as the difference maker, extending Chicago’s winning streak in Des Moines to 10 games. Defenseman Hubert Labrie and forward Jeremy Welsh added a goal each in the Wolves victory. Goalie Jordan Binnington (16-14-5) stopped 21 of 23 shots in the win. Iowa forward Brady Brassart and defenseman Christian Folin scored a goal each in the Wild loss. Goalie Steve Michalek (6-4-0) made 26 saves on 29 shots in the defeat. Iowa hosts Chicago for a rematch at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

After a scoreless first period Wild forward Brady Brassart scored 1:41 into the second, helping the Wild grab a 1-0 lead. Forward Marc Hagel notched the lone assist on the goal. Hagel caused a turnover in the offensive zone, giving Brassart the puck along the goal line to the right of the net. Brassart banked the puck off goalie Jordan Binnington and into the net for his fourth goal of the season.

Wolves forward Jeremy Welsh scored 1:11 into the third period, tying the game 1-1. Defenseman Scooter Vaughan picked up the assist on the goal. Vaughan took a slapshot from the left point with Welsh providing a screen. Goalie Steve Michalek made the initial save, but Vaughan slipped the rebound under Michalek as he fell to the ice for his 15th goal of the season. Iowa defenseman Christian Folin scored at 9:06 of the period, reclaiming a 2-1 lead for the Wild. Forwards Christoph Bertschy and Colton Beck each tallied an assist on the power-play goal. Bertschy corralled the puck at the point, feeding a pass to Folin above the right faceoff circle. Folin wristed a shot through traffic in front of the net, beating Binnington over the shoulder for his fourth goal of the season. Wolves defenseman Hubert Labrie tied the game 2-2 at 12:44 of the third period. Defenseman Bryce Gervais and forward Evan Trupp each tallied an assist on the goal. Labrie took a pass from Trupp, walking the puck down the right boards. He attempted a centering pass, bouncing the puck off a defender and into the net for his second goal of the season. Wolves defenseman Andre Benoit scored on the powerplay with 1:32 remaining in regulation, helping Chicago grab a 3-2 lead. Defenseman Peter Harrold picked up the lone assist on the goal. Michalek stopped the initial shot from Harrold but Benoit one-timed the rebound from the right faceoff dot past a sprawling Michalek for his eighth goal of the season.

The Wild hosts Chicago for a rematch on Saturday, Mar. 19 at 12:30 p.m. Saturday’s game features the Wild’s “Go Green Game”, sponsored by NASH FM and NASH ICON. The first 1,000 fans to the game receive an Iowa Wild water bottle courtesy of Water Works Park. The “Legends Brewdog Pack” is also available on Saturday, including one of each: ticket, beer, hotdog, and a free Bud or Bud Light at Legends American Grill. The Stanley Cup is expected to make a visit to Wells Fargo Arena for Saturday’s game. It will be displayed on the concourse throughout the game. The Iowa Wild is also offering a specialty package that includes access to a breakfast buffet, one drink ticket, and a ticket the game. The package is extremely limited and starts at $50 ($35 for Iowa Wild VIP Members) and begins at 10:30 a.m. A professional photographer will be in attendance for those who would like a professional portrait.

Iowa welcomes Manitoba to Wells Fargo Arena on Wednesday, Mar. 30 for a 7 p.m. game. The Wild continues “Winning Wednesday” courtesy of NASH ICON. Every fan in attendance receives a ticket to the next Wednesday game (Apr. 13) if the Iowa Wild wins. The game also features “Jim Beam and NASH FM Guys Night”, consisting Beam Orchard Twist drink specials of $5 for a regular and $10 for a mason jar Orchard Beam Twist.

The Wells Fargo Arena box office is open Monday – Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and closed on Sunday.
