Iowa Hosts Fan Appreciation Night in Final Home Game on Friday

DES MOINES, IA– The Iowa Wild (24-40-5-5, 58 points) were defeated by the Rockford IceHogs (38-22-10-4, 90 points) 2-1 in front of 4,111 fans at Wells Fargo Arena on Wednesday night. The Wild killed off seven straight penalties but IceHogs forward Tyler Motte scored a power-play goal with 5:44 remaining in the game, ending Iowa’s five-game point streak. Rockford received an additional goal from forward Matt Fraser. IceHogs goalie Mac Carruth (15-3-5) made 20 saves on 21 shots in the win. Wild goalie Leland Irving (12-21-6) stopped 27 of 29 shots in the loss. Iowa forward Nick Saracino scored the lone Wild goal in the defeat. Iowa hosts the Chicago Wolves on Friday at 7 p.m. for its final home game of the season.

Rockford forward Matt Fraser opened the scoring 5:02 into the game, helping the IceHogs grab a 1-0 lead. Forwards Mark McNeill and Ryan Haggerty each tallied an assist on the goal. Haggerty received a pass from Schilling, heading the offensive rush up the left boards. He threw the puck towards the Iowa goal and Fraser redirected the puck past Irving as he crashed the net, scoring his seventh goal of the season. Iowa forward Nick Saracino scored at 14:42 of the period, tying the game 1-1. Forwards Grayson Downing and Rob Bordson each earned an assist on the goal. Bordson hit Downing with a pass as he crossed the IceHogs blueline. After a blocked shot attempt, Downing walked the puck from the slot to the right of the goal. He feathered a pass to Saracino at the top of the crease, giving the rookie a tap-in goal. The goal marks the first of Saracino’s professional career.

After a scoreless second period, Rockford forward Tyler Motte scored at 14:16 of the third period, giving the IceHogs a 2-1 lead. Forwards Pierre-Cedric Labrie and Tanner Kero each tallied an assist on the power-play goal. Labrie corralled the puck at the bottom of the left circle, tossing a pass to the front of the net. Motte redirected the puck past Irving and into the back of the net for second goal of the season.

Iowa’s final home game of the season takes place on Friday, Apr. 15 at 7 p.m. against the Chicago Wolves. The Iowa Wild extends its gratitude and thanks with “Fan Appreciation Night”. The first 2,500 fans to the game receive an Iowa Wild team poster sponsored by Renaissance Savery Hotel, Prairie Life Fitness, Edwards, GuideOne Insurance, and Country 96.5. Friday also includes $2 beer night presented by 100.3 The Bus. The “Bring Your Buds Bundle” ticket package is available for purchase, including one ticket, one 16 oz. Bud or Bud Light at the game, one hotdog, one popcorn, $1 off Budweiser or Bud Light 25 oz. can during the Wild game, and one free beer at Carl’s Place. The Wild finishes its season in Chicago on Saturday, Apr. 16.

Tickets are available online at www.Iowawild.com under the single game tickets tab. The Wells Fargo Arena box office is open Monday – Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and closed on Sunday. For Saturday game days, the box office will open at 10 a.m. For Sunday game days the box office will open at 12 p.m. Fans may also purchase tickets by calling 1-844-55-HYVEE or by visiting participating Hy-Vee food stores locations in the greater Des Moines area. The Iowa Wild 2016-17 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team’s 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena.
