DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild (0-1-0-0, 0 points) was defeated by the Manitoba Moose (1-0-0-0, 2 points) 3-1 in front of 9,110 fans on Friday night at Wells Fargo Arena. Manitoba goalie Eric Comrie (1-0-0) stopped 28 of 29 shots and forward Jack Roslovic led the Moose with a goal and an assist. Forward Quinton Howden and defenseman Nelson Nogier also added goals in the first game of the year. Iowa goalie Alex Stalock (0-1-0) stopped 20 of 23 shots in defeat. Iowa defenseman Gustav Olofsson scored his club’s lone goal. The crowd of 9,110 was the second largest opening night crowd in team history. Iowa and Manitoba faceoff again at 7 PM in Des Moines on Saturday.

After a scoreless first period, Manitoba claimed the lead with the game’s first goal. Defenseman Nelson Nogier wristed a floater from the right point. The puck weaved through traffic and snuck over the right shoulder of Iowa goalie Alex Stalock.  Forwards Jimmy Lodge and Patrice Cormier each had an assist on Nogier’s first career goal for the 1-0 lead at 2:46.  Iowa pulled even at 8:51 of the middle period as Steve Czarnowczan sent a pass to the slot. Defenseman Gustav Olofsson redirected the centering pass behind goalie Eric Comrie for the 1-1 score. Alex Tuch also picked up an assist for his first career point. The Moose slipped back in front at 16:57 of the period, as forward Quinton Howden potted a rebound off a Jack Roslovic shot.  Winger Anthony Peluso added an assist on Howden’s first goal of the year.

The Moose capitalized off a 5-on-3 power play late in the third period. Roslovic snapped a wrist shot shortside, beating Stalock inside the post for his first goal of the year and a 3-1 lead. Defenseman Brian Strait and forward Nic Petan added the assists on the tally.

Saturday, Oct. 15 the team welcomes Manitoba for a rematch at 7 P.M. Fans are encouraged to show up early and enjoy the team’s tailgate party, which begins at 4:30 p.m. and runs until 6:30 p.m. Free hot dogs will be handed out to those at the pregame festivity, presented by NASH FM, 98.3 The Vibe and 95KGGO. The first 2,500 fans to the game will receive an Iowa Wild schedule poster, presented by TS Construction, Loney & Schueller and 1460 KXNO. Fans of drinking age may enjoy Jim Beam Drink specials throughout the night. Saturday night features the Legends BrewDog package, which includes a ticket, beer/hot dog voucher and a coupon for a free beverage at Legends after the game.

Iowa continues a seven-game home stand on Tuesday at 7 PM with the Grand Rapids Griffins. For every Tuesday game of the year, Kids Eat Free (12 and under), presented by Goodhue-Nolte and 96.5 Country. Fans are encouraged to bring costumes to the game. Those that that make donations will be given a ticket to a future Wild home game. The Costume Drive is sponsored by Lazer 103.3. Fans that present a Subway coupon will be able to purchase a ticket for $5.

The home stand continues on Oct. 21 and 22 with the Charlotte Checkers, both games are set for 7 PM. Friday night is a $2 Beer night, presented by 103 The Bus. The team also offers the first night of Collegeville, a special ticket offer for students. Saturday night is Ladies Night, with drinks specials throughout the game. Fans may enjoy Jim Beam drink specials, as well as drink specials on Barefoot Wine. The Brewdog Pack is available for purchase, which includes a Bud Light and a hot dog at the game, as well as a Bud Light after the game at Legends Bar and Grill.
