Iowa Plays First Road Game on Saturday at Milwaukee

DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild (3-4-0-0, 6 points) defeated the Milwaukee Admirals (3-1-0-1, 7 points) 6-1 in front of 5,510 fans on Friday night at Wells Fargo Arena. Iowa goalie Steve Michalek (2-0-0) made 36 saves and seven different skaters registered a multi-point night in the lopsided win. Center Tyler Graovac led all scorers with two goals and one assist in the victory. Veteran forward Jordan Schroeder scored twice, while defenseman Mike Reilly added three assists in the first meeting of the season between the two teams. Wingers Christoph Bertschy and Colton Beck each had a goal and an assist as Iowa wrapped up its seven-game home stand at 3-4-0-0. Defensemen Gustav Olofsson also added two assists. Milwaukee goalie Jonas Gunnarsson (0-1-0) made 25 saves in the loss. Iowa ended Milwaukee’s 13-game unbeaten string (10-0-2-1) at Wells Fargo Arena dating back to 2013, marking the first regulation win over the Admirals at home in team history. Iowa ventures to Milwaukee for its first road game of the season at 7 PM on Saturday night.

Iowa forward Tyler Graovac scored his second goal of the year at 15:23 of the first period, giving the Wild a 1-0 lead. Iowa defenseman Gustav Olofsson started the play with a touch pass from the blueline to Mario Lucia. The Wild forward picked up the pass and skated into the Milwaukee zone. Lucia spun with the puck and centered to Tyler Graovac, who beat goalie Jonas Gunnarsson for the 1-0 lead after one period of play.

Forward Jordan Schroeder scored his second goal of the year at 5:43 of the middle frame, extending Iowa’s lead to 2-0. Christoph Bertschy and Mike Reilly helped set up the power-play goal. Colton Beck scored his first goal of the season at 16:16 of the second period. The goal was assisted by Olofsson, his second of the night, and Zach Palmquist. Beck tipped an Olofsson shot for the three-goal lead.

Schroeder’s second goal of the night was scored at 3:17 of the third period, giving the Wild a 4-0 lead. Schroeder’s third goal of the season was assisted by Beck and Hunter Warner. Graovac made it a 5-0 game at 4:33 of the third period with his third goal of the year. The power-play goal was assisted by Reilly and Pat Cannone. Bertschy scored a power-play goal at 4:50 of the period, giving Iowa a 6-0 lead. Bertschy’s second goal of the year was assisted by Reilly and Graovac.

Admirals defenseman Adam Pardy scored at 16:49 of the third period, his first of the season. The shorthanded goal was assisted by Adam Payerl, and made it a 6-1 final score.

After road games in Milwaukee and Grand Rapids, Iowa returns home on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 5 PM with the Rockford IceHogs. It’s ZERO Prostate Awareness Night, which marks the beginning of “Movember” - a month long initiative where men grow moustaches to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer research. Sunday’s game is also Pucks & Paws Night, presented by Anderson Animal Hospital. Participating sponsors include Downtown Doggy Daycare and Copper Cup. For the first 400 fans (and their dog), will be given a Iowa Wild themed Pet Bowl presented by Anderson Animal Hospital and Lazer 103.3. There will also be a Pet Food Drive that benefits the Animal Rescue League. Sunday night is also Subway Combo Pack night. There will be a Postgame Skate after the game for all fans.

The Wild hosts Wild About Education on Thursday, Nov. 10 with a 10:30 a.m. faceoff against Charlotte, presented by Amerigroup Iowa Inc. and the Science Center. Thursday’s game is also Corporate Field Trip day. Fans may bring a Subway receipt to purchase a ticket for $5.00. Thursday’s game is also a Mug Club day.
