Iowa Returns Home For Rockford at 5 PM on Sunday With Pucks and Paws

MILWAUKEE, WI – The Iowa Wild (4-6-0-0, 8 points) was defeated by the Milwaukee Admirals (6-2-0-1, 13 points) 5-3 in front of 4,082 fans on Saturday night at UWM Panthers Arena. Milwaukee forward Pontus Aberg and defenseman Alexandre Carrier each scored twice and added an assist to lead the Admirals over Iowa in the third meeting of the year between the two clubs. Admirals goalie Juuse Saros (6-1-0) stopped 28 of 31 Iowa shots. Iowa goalie Alex Stalock (1-5-0) made 26 saves on31 Admirals shots. Forwards Marc Hagel and Kurtis Gabriel, and defenseman Mike Weber, each had a goal in the road loss. Iowa returns home on Sunday to meet Rockford at 5 PM.

Milwaukee wasted no time with the game’s first power play just 3:24 into the opening period. Admirals forward Pontus Aberg scored 27 seconds into the Milwaukee power play for the 1-0 lead. Center Adam Payerl and defenseman Alexandre Carrier each had an assist on Aberg’s fourth goal of the season at 3:51, a rebound off to the right of Alex Stalock. Iowa countered on the next Milwaukee power play with a shorthanded strike by left wing Kurtis Gabriel. At 7:14 of the first period, Gabriel picked off an errant play and skated off on a breakaway, beating Juuse Saros with a backhand shot for his first goal of the year and a 1-1 score. Milwaukee jumped back in front as defenseman Jack Dougherty blasted a shot from the right-wing circle of the Iowa zone, beating Stalock off the post. His first pro goal was set up by Aberg and Justin Kirkland at 17:55 for the 2-1 lead. Just 1:04 later, Carrier picked up his first pro goal with a long shot from the Iowa blueline, sneaking the shot past Stalock for the 3-1 Admirals lead. Winger Vladislav Kamenev and defenseman Adam Pardy each had a hand in the tally. The Wild rallied for a late-period goal by defenseman Mike Weber at 19:31 to trim the Milwaukee lead to 3-2. Iowa center Grayson Downing carried the puck into the Milwaukee zone and fired a shot that was stop by Saros. Weber followed the play to score his first goal of the year off the rebound to make it a 3-2 game after 20 minutes of play.

7:19 into the second period, Iowa’s Nick Saracino drove to the Milwaukee net, swinging behind the cage and attempting a wraparound. Saros made the initial save, but right Marc Hagel scored off the rebound on the back post, collecting his first goal of the season and tying the game 3-3. Aberg struck for his second goal of the night at 15:14 of the middle period. His fifth goal of the year was assisted by defenseman Trevor Murphy and forward Matt White for the 4-3 lead.

Milwaukee added an insurance goal at 16:03 of the third period, as Carrier added his second goal of the night for the 5-3 lead. Smith and Kamenev each had an assist on the final goal of the night.

Iowa returns home on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 5 PM with the Rockford IceHogs. Sunday’s game is Pucks & Paws Night, presented by Anderson Animal Hospital. Participating sponsors include Downtown Doggy Daycare and Copper Cup. For the first 400 fans (and their dog), will be given a Iowa Wild themed Pet Bowl presented by Anderson Animal Hospital and Lazer 103.3. There will also be a Pet Food Drive that benefits the Animal Rescue League. Sunday night is also Subway Combo Pack night. There will be a Postgame Skate after the game for all fans. It’s ZERO Prostate Awareness Night, which marks the beginning of “Grow and Give” - a month long initiative where men grow facial hair to raise awareness and funds for all cancers that affect men.

The Wild hosts Wild About Education on Thursday, Nov. 10 with a 10:30 a.m. faceoff against Charlotte, presented by Amerigroup Iowa Inc. and the Hyvee. Thursday’s game is also Corporate Field Trip day. Fans may bring a Subway receipt to purchase a ticket for $5.00.

Iowa rounds out the weekend with games on Friday and Saturday. Friday night is Veterans Appreciation Night, benefitting ALS Association Iowa Chapter. The Wild celebrates our Veterans by wearing specialty jerseys (red-white-blue themed), which are auctioned off after the game in a live auction. The first 1,500 fans will be handed a Patriotic Hat upon entry, sponsored by Alt 106.3, Vatterott College and HyVee. Fans may also enjoy $2 Beers on Friday compliments of 100.3 The Bus. The Wild meets Charlotte on Friday for a 7 PM faceoff.

On Saturday, the Ontario Reign makes its lone visit to Wells Fargo Arena, the first meeting in history between Iowa and Ontario. The Wild celebrates Youth Sports Night by honoring local youth sports teams in Des Moines. The first 1,500 youths (12 and under) to the game receives an Iowa Wild Youth Jersey T-Shirt, sponsored by 107.5 KISS FM and Scheels. It’s also a Jim Beam Night presented by NASH FM, where fans 21 and older may enjoy a $5 Beam Apple Orchard or a $10 Beam Apple Orchard in a mason jar. The Brewdog pack is also available, which features a beer/hot dog voucher at the game and a voucher for a free drink at Legends Bar and Grill.
