ABBOTSFORD SLIPS PAST IOWA 2-1

Iowa Plays Next Six On The Road, Returns Home Dec. 15

Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Wild (6-11-0-0, 12 points) were defeated by the Abbotsford Heat (17-5-0-1, 35 points) 2-1 in front of 4,022 fans at the Wells Fargo Arena on Sunday night. Heat forward Ben Street scored a pair of goals 1:56 apart in the second period, including the game-winning goal, leading his club to an 11-4-0-0 road record this season. Abbotsford goalie Joey MacDonald (4-1-0) made 42 saves, including 19 in the first period, leading the Heat to its league-leading 17th win. Iowa goalie John Curry (0-1-0) made 17 saves in his debut. Forward Brett Bulmer scored the team’s lone goal, as Iowa dropped its sixth straight game overall and its eight in a row at home. Iowa begins a six-game road trip in Chicago on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Wild got on the scoreboard first at 14:01 of the first period with a goal by forward Brett Bulmer. Off the faceoff in the Abbotsford zone, Iowa forwards Chad Rau and Stephane Veilleux worked the puck along the boards, feeding a pass to Bulmer. The second-year winger hammered a one-timer past Heat goalie Joey MacDonald to give the Wild a 1-0 lead.

The Heat scored a pair of goals just 1:56 apart in the second period, both by Abbotsford forward Ben Street. He tied the game at 9:31 after a one-timer beat Iowa goalie John Curry. Abbotsford defenseman Drew MacKenzie and forward Josh Jooris each picked up an assist on the play. Street scored his second goal of the game at 11:27, giving Abbotsford a 2-1 lead. Abbotsford defenseman Chad Billins skated toward the slot, feeding a pass to Street who buried the puck in the Iowa net. Abbotsford forward Markus Granlund also picked up an assist on Street’s 11th goal of the year.

The Wild embarks on a six-game road trip starting on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 7:00 p.m. After games at San Antonio, Texas and Abbotsford, the team returns home on Sunday, Dec. 15 to host Rockford at 4:50 p.m. For Sunday’s game, the team will hold its first Teddy Bear Toss, where fans are encouraged to throw a stuffed animal on the ice for charity. Fans will be permitted to through Teddy Bears on the ice after the Wild score its first goal of the night.
