Iowa Visits San Diego on Feb. 14 at 9 PM CT

DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild (25-19-5-2, 57 points) were defeated by the Grand Rapids Griffins (31-14-1-2, 65 points) 4-3 in a shootout in front of 10,580 fans on Saturday night at Wells Fargo Arena. Zack Micthell’s goal with 1:39 left in regulation forced overtime and the eventual shootout, but the Griffins pulled through to edge the Wild. Despite the shootout loss, Iowa’s points streak extends to 11 games, a new team record (7-0-3-1). Forwards Grayson Downing and Sam Anas also each scored a goal for Iowa in the loss. Wild goalie Alex Stalock (15-10-6) made 31 of 34 saves in regulation and two of four in the shootout loss. The Wild has points in 15 of its last 16 games (11-1-3-1). Griffins goalie Cal Heeter (8-2-0) made 37 of 40 saves in regulation and three of four in the shootout win. Defensemen Joe Hicketts and Conor Allen each scored for the Griffins as well as forward Matthew Ford in the victory. The Wild plays at 9 PM CT in San Diego on Tuesday.

Griffins defenseman Joe Hicketts opened the scoring at 6:39 of the first period, giving Grand Rapids a 1-0 lead. Hicketts’ fifth goal of the season was assisted by forwards Tyler Bertuzzi and Evgeny Svechnikov. Hicketts’ shot from the high slot beat Wild goalie Alex Stalock on the stick side. Forward Grayson Downing scored his seventh goal of the season for Iowa at 9:07 of the period, tying the game 1-1. The power-play goal was assisted by forwards Pat Cannone and Christoph Bertschy. Cannone played the puck to the crease and Downing jammed it past Griffins goalie Cal Heeter. Griffins defenseman Conor Allen made it a 2-1 game at 12:50 of the opening frame. Forwards Drew Miller and Colin Campbell each helped set up Allen’s first goal of the season. After a scramble in front of the Iowa net, Allen found the puck and scored from the left-wing circle.

Wild forward Sam Anas tied the game 2-2 at 12:00 of the second period. Anas’ seventh goal of the season was set up by Bertschy and defenseman Dylan Labbe. Anas scored off a rebound of a Bertschy shot.

Griffins forward Matthew Ford scored his fifth goal of the season 15 seconds into the third period, giving Grand Rapids a 3-2 lead. The power-play goal was assisted by defenseman Robbie Russo and forward Kyle Criscuolo. Ford deflected Russo’s shot through the five-hole. Iowa forward Zack Mitchell tied the game 3-3 at 18:21 of the third period. Mitchell’s eighth goal of the season was set up by Anas and defenseman Mike Reilly.

After a scoreless overtime period, forwards Evgeny Svechnikov and Tyler Bertuzzi each scored in the shootout for the Griffins. Sam Anas had the lone goal for Iowa as the Wild fell 4-3 in the shootout.

After games in San Diego and Ontario, Iowa returns home to play the Cleveland Monsters on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 3 PM at Wells Fargo Arena. The first 1,500 fans to arrive receive a Crash bobblehead in celebration of Crash’s birthday, presented by Better Business Bureau and NASH ICON. Following the conclusion of the game, there is a full mascot autograph session, highlighted by Crash, and a postgame skate. Fans may rent skates, benefiting American Heart Association. Subway Combo packs are also available for purchase at the game.

Iowa and Cleveland meet again on Monday, Feb. 20 at 7 PM at Wells Fargo Arena. It is Free Parking Monday (until the IEC lots are full). Fans may bring in a Subway Receipt to purchase a ticket for only $5.
