WILD SNAPS WINLESS SKID AT HOME WITH 3-1 VICTORY OVER HOGS

Iowa Hosts Grand Rapids This Wednesday at 7:05 P.M.

Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Wild (10-13-1-0, 21 points) defeated the Rockford IceHogs (15-12-2-0, 32 points) 3-1 in front of 6,312 fans at the Wells Fargo Arena on Sunday. Balanced scoring and stellar play from Iowa goaltender Darcy Kuemper (6-9-0) paved the way for the team’s first win at home since Nov. 1. Kuemper stopped 37 of 38 Rockford shots, including 14 in the second period.  Iowa forwards Zack Phillips, Carson McMillan and Tyler Graovac each scored, as the team improved to 4-10-0-0 at home this year. Rookie forward Raphael Bussieres added two assists in the victory, snapping an eight-game winless skid at home. Rockford goalie Allen York (3-2-2) suffered the loss, stopping 32 of 35 Iowa shots. Iowa continues a six-game homestand on Wednesday with a 7:05 p.m. meeting against the Grand Rapids Griffins.

The Wild scored on the first shot of the game just 26 seconds into the first period with a goal by Iowa center Zack Phillips. The forward skated around several Rockford defenders before lifting the puck past Rockford goalie Allen York. Iowa forward Stephane Veilleux and defenseman Brian Connelly each picked up an assist on the play to give the Wild a 1-0 lead.

In the second period, the Wild increased its lead to 2-0 with a goal at 2:37 by Iowa center Carson McMillan. Iowa forward Raphael Bussieres fed a pass behind the Rockford net to a crashing McMillan, who one-timed the puck to pick up his third goal of the season. Iowa center Chad Rau was also issued an assist. Rockford cut Iowa’s lead in half at 15:32 with a goal by Icehogs defenseman Klas Dahlbeck. The defenseman picked up a pass near the left point of the Iowa zone and fired a one-timer past Iowa goalie Darcy Kuemper for the 2-1 score.

The Wild scored the lone goal of the third period at 9:09 by Iowa forward Tyler Graovac. Iowa forwards Kris Foucault and Raphael Bussieres each picked up an assist in the final goal of the game to give the Wild a 3-1 win over the Icehogs.

Iowa continues a six-game homestand with Grand Rapids on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 7:05 p.m.  Hamilton will visit on Friday, Dec. 20, San Antonio on Saturday, Dec. 21, and Rockford on Thursday, Dec. 26. For Wednesday’s game, fans have the opportunity to purchase a $5 ticket by presenting a Subway receipt at the Wells Fargo Arena box office. Friday’s game also marks $2 Beer Night, where fans can purchase 10 oz. domestic drafts through the first period, presented by 100.3 FM The Bus. It is also Student Night, where students can purchase a $5 ticket by showing a high school or college ID at the Wells Fargo Arena box office. Saturday’s game is Salvation Army Night, where fans may drop donations with Kettle Bearers. The game also features kids who participated in the team’s Wild About Reading program. During next Thursday’s game, fans are encouraged to sport an Ugly Holiday Sweater. Fans may also purchase the Subway Family Four Pack, which features four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas, and four Subway coupons starting at $44.
