Iowa Recalls Goalie Curry, Releases Thomas Heemskerk 

Des Moines, IA – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher on Friday announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has reassigned forward Brett Bulmer to the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL). Iowa Wild General Manager Jim Mill announced on Friday the American Hockey League (AHL) club has recalled goalie John Curry from the Orlando Solar Bears, Iowa’s ECHL affiliate. Mill also announced goalie Thomas Heemskerk has been released from his professional tryout agreement (PTO).

Bulmer, 21 (4/26/92), totaled six shots and two penalty minutes (PIM) in four games with Minnesota after being recalled Dec. 12. He has recorded 12 points (9-3=12), 20 PIM and three power-play goals in 21 games with Iowa this season, leading the team in goals and T-4th in scoring. The 6-foot-4, 212-pound native of Prince George, B.C., has totaled three assists, six PIM and a plus-1 rating in 13 career NHL games, dating back to the 2011-12 NHL season. Bulmer was selected by Minnesota in the second round (No. 39) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Curry made his Iowa debut on Nov. 24, stopping 17 of 19 in a 2-1 loss to Abbotsford at home. He returns from Orlando, where the 29-year old was 9-2-0 over 12 appearances, while posting a 2.63 GAA and a .918 SV% with the Solar Bears. Over the course of his career, the seventh-year pro has made 186 appearances in the AHL for Wilkes-Barre Scranton, Houston and Iowa. Curry is 109-61-7 with a 2.47 GAA and a .907 SV% in his AHL career. He has also made an appearance in four NHL games (all Pittsburgh), going 2-2-0 with a 3.79 GAA and a .867 DV %.

Heemskerk returns to Quad City of the Central Hockey League, Iowa’s CHL affiliate. In 10 games with the Mallards, Heemskerk (5-1-3) posted a 2.92 GAA and .909 SV%. The Chilliwack, BC native has appeared six AHL games for the Worcester Sharks. Suiting up four times in 2011-2012 and twice in 2012-13.

Iowa continues a six-game homestand with Hamilton on Friday, Dec. 20, San Antonio on Saturday, Dec. 21, and Rockford on Thursday, Dec. 26. Friday’s game marks $2 Beer Night, where fans can purchase 10 oz. domestic drafts through the first period, presented by 100.3 FM The Bus. It is also Student Night, where students can purchase a $5 ticket by showing a high school or college ID at the Wells Fargo Arena box office. Saturday’s game is Salvation Army Night, where fans may drop donations with Kettle Bearers. The game also features kids who participated in the team’s Wild About Reading program. During next Thursday’s game, fans are encouraged to sport an Ugly Holiday Sweater. Fans may also purchase the Subway Family Four Pack, which features four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas, and four Subway coupons starting at $44.
