ADMIRALS SHUTOUT WILD 4-0

Iowa Points Streak Comes To An End At Six Games

Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Wild (13-14-2-0, 28 points) were defeated by the Milwaukee Admirals (16-8-5-1, 38 points) 4-0 in front of 6,233 fans at the Wells Fargo Arena on Sunday. Admirals goalie Scott Darling picked up his second straight shutout against Iowa and his team scored a pair of goals 53 seconds apart midway through the first period. Darling improved to 7-1-0, finishing with 33 saves in the win. Milwaukee forward Colton Sissons and defenseman Anthony Bitetto each scored a goal and added an assist, improving the Admirals record to 7-6-3-1 on the road. Iowa goalie Johan Gustafsson (4-5-0) stopped 19 shots in the loss, which ended the Wild’s six-game points streak (5-0-1-0). Iowa begins a six-game road trip on Friday with a 7 p.m. meeting at Rockford.

The Admirals opened the scoring midway through the first period with a pair of goals 53 seconds apart, giving the club a 2-0 lead. Milwaukee forward Colton Sissons scored at 14:00, one-timing a pass from teammate Vinny Saponari past Wild goalie Johan Gustafsson. Admirals defenseman Charles-Olivier Roussel also picked up an assist on the play. Milwaukee defenseman Anthony Bitetto scored a power-play goal at 14:53, beating Gustafsson on the glove side. Sissons and Milwaukee defenseman Bryan Rodney each picked up an assist, giving the Admirals a 2-0 lead.

After a scoreless second period, the Admirals added an early goal at 2:41 in the third period by forward Vinny Saponari. The Milwaukee right wing scored a power-play goal off a wrist shot from the left-wing circle, giving his club a 3-0 lead. Bitetto and Admirals forward Taylor Beck each picked up an assist on the play. The Admirals added to the lead at 6:12 with a goal by forward Austin Watson. The Milwaukee center buried a rebound on the backhand, giving his club a 4-0 lead. Admirals defenseman Joe Piskula and forward Kevin Henderson each picked up an assist on the final goal of the game.

The team will play six straight on the road prior to returning home on Jan. 15 to host Toronto at 7:05 p.m.
