WOLVES EDGE WILD 4-3 IN A SHOOTOUT

Iowa Heads to Milwaukee on Monday

Rosemont, IL – The Iowa Wild (14-14-2-1, 31 points) were defeated by the Chicago Wolves (18-13-1-2, 39 points) 4-3 in a shootout in front of 7,229 fans at the Allstate Arena on Saturday night. After erasing a 3-1 first period deficit to force extended play, the Wolves scored on all four shootout attempts to edge the visiting Wild. Despite the shootout loss, the Wild have points in 12 of the last 14 games (8-3-2-1). Iowa goalie John Curry (2-1-1) stopped 26 of 29 in regulation and zero of four attempts in the shootout loss. Chicago goalie Matt Climie (4-7-0) stopped 28 of 31 in regulation and two of three in the shootout win. Iowa forward Carson McMillan scored a goal and added an assist in the defeat. Forward Erik Haula and defenseman Kyle Medvec also scored for Iowa, as the team suffered its first shootout loss of the season. Iowa continues a six-game road trip on Monday with a 7 p.m. meeting at Milwaukee.

The two teams combined for five goals in the first period, with Iowa opening the scoring at 5:51. Seconds after a Wolves penalty expired, Iowa defenseman Kyle Medvec sent a wrist shot from the point, through traffic and past goalie Matt Climie. Medvec’s first goal of the year was assisted by forward Zack Phillips and defenseman Jon Landry for the 1-0 lead. Chicago’s Sergey Andronov tied the game 1-1 at 8:15 of the period, striking for his eighth goal of the year. Forwards Mark Mancari and Keith Aucoin each picked up an assist on the goal. Iowa regained its lead at 10:57 with the first shorthanded goal in team history. Center Carson McMillan beat Climie glove side off a rush for his fifth goal of the year and a 2-1 Wild lead. Iowa made it 3-1 at 17:35 of a give-n-go pass play between McMillan and Erik Haula. McMillan sent a pass from behind the Wolves net to Haula, who was parked in the slot. The Wild rookie snapped home his ninth goal of the year. Forward Kris Foucault picked up the second assist on the goal. The Wolves pulled within a goal in the last minute of the period. Forward Pat Canonne redirected a point shot past John Curry. Canonne’s seventh goal of the year was set up by Evan Oberg and Mancari.

Chicago scored the lone goal in the second period, tying the game 3-3 at 13:52 of the period. Wolves rookie Ty Rattie evened the score by tucking in a rebound for his 12th goal of the year. Defenseman Joel Edmundson and Aucoin added assists on the goal.

After a scoreless third period and overtime, the two teams skated to a shootout. Chicago’s Ty Rattie, Sebastien Wannstrom, Keith Aucoin and Dmitrij Jaskin each scored in the shootout. Iowa’s lone shootout goal was scored by Carson McMillan.

Iowa will continue its six-game road swing in Milwaukee with the Wild on Monday at 7 p.m. The team will return home on Jan. 15 to host Toronto at 7:05 p.m.
