MILWAUKEE EDGES IOWA 3-2 IN OT

8,818 Salute Local Heroes for Military Appreciation Night

Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Wild (19-16-4-3, 45 points) were defeated by the Milwaukee Admirals (21-13-6-3, 51 points) 3-2 in overtime in front of 8,818 fans at Wells Fargo Arena on Friday night. Defenseman Bryan Rodney scored with 51 seconds remaining in overtime to push the Admirals past the Wild. Despite the loss, Iowa picks up a point and extends its points streak to seven games (4-0-2-1). Wild goalie Johan Gustafsson (8-8-2) made 26 saves in the loss. Wild defenseman Jonathon Blum tallied two assists, as Iowa slipped to 9-11-3-0 at home. Admirals goalie Marek Mazanec (8-3-1) stopped 24 shots for the win. Wild forwards Carson McMillan and Jim McKenzie each scored in the defeat. Iowa plays at 7 p.m. in Chicago on Saturday night.

The Admirals opened the scoring at 7:28 of the first period with a goal by forward Austin Watson. The Milwaukee center fired the puck down low off a pass from forward Kevin Henderson, giving his club a 1-0 lead.

After a scoreless second period, the Admirals made it 2-0 at 1:32 of the third period after forward Mikka Salomaki scored. The left wing rifled a wrist shot past Iowa goalie Johan Gustafsson, giving his team a two-goal lead.  Milwaukee forwards Vinny Saponari and Simon Moser each picked up an assist on Salomaki’s 12th goal of the season. The Wild cut the lead in half at 6:35 with a goal by forward Carson McMillan. The Iowa center fired a long-range shot past Admirals goalie Marek Mazanec. Wild center Jake Dowell and defender Jonathon Blum each picked up an assist on McMillan’s tenth goal of the season. Iowa tied the game 2-2 at 14:42 with a goal by forward Jim McKenzie. The right wing chipped in a rebound off a shot from the blueline, picking up his first goal of the season. Blum and defenseman Brian Connelly each tallied an assist on the game-tying goal.

The Admirals won the game at 4:09 in overtime with a goal by defenseman Bryan Rodney. The defender jammed in a rebound to score the game-winning goal. Salomaki and Moser each picked up an assist on the final goal of the game.

Iowa plays in Chicago at 7 p.m. prior to returning home to host the Utica Comets on Wednesday, February 5th at 7:05 p.m. and the Chicago Wolves on Friday, February 7th at 7:05 p.m. On Wednesday, fans may purchase a $5 ticket by presenting a Subway receipt at the Wells Fargo Arena box office. Friday’s game is a $2 Beer Night, presented by 100.3 The Bus. Every Friday, fans (21 and over) may purchase $2, ten-ounce domestic drafts through the first period of play. The game also includes the Equipment Drive for Courage League Sports, presented by Scheels. The Iowa Wild will be collecting new or gently used sports equipment to benefit Courage League Sports, an adaptive sports/recreation facility serving kids and young adults.
