CHECKERS SQUEEZE PAST WILD 2-1

Iowa Concludes Six-Game Homestand on Wednesday at 7:05 P.M.

Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Wild (25-29-4-6, 60 points) was defeated by the Charlotte Checkers (33-30-1-2, 69 points) 2-1 in front of 3,902 fans at the Wells Fargo Arena on Tuesday. Charlotte forward Chris Terry scored the game-winning goal at 11:27 of the third period, leading his team to victory. Iowa goalie Johan Gustafsson (11-16-2) stopped 27 shots in the loss. Wild forward Kris Foucault tallied the team’s lone goal, as his team fell 11-19-3-1 at home this year. Zach Boychuk picked up two points in the Checkers win. Charlotte goalie John Muse (23-12-0) made 24 saves for the victory. The Wild concludes a six-game homestand on Wednesday, Mar. 26 at 7:05 p.m. against the Charlotte Checkers.

The Checkers scored midway through the opening period, taking a 1-0 lead. Forward Zach Boychuk found a loose puck behind Iowa goalie Johan Gustafsson, sweeping it into the net for his team-leading 29th goal of the season. Defenseman Mark Flood and forward Brett Sutter each helped set up the power-play goal.

The Wild tied things up 1-1 at 12:47 of the second period with a goal by Kris Foucault. The forward fired a wrist shot on net, beating Charlotte goalie John Muse for his ninth goal of the season. Wild forwards Zack Phillips and Brett Bulmer each tallied an assist on the play.

The Checkers regained the lead at 11:27 of the third period with a power-play goal by Chris Terry. Boychuk and defenseman Michal Jordan each picked up an assist on the game’s final goal.

Iowa closes out its six-game stand with Charlotte on Wednesday at 7:05 P.M. Fans that bring a Subway receipt to the Wells Fargo Arena box office may purchase a ticket for $5. Iowa begins a five-game road trip on Saturday, Mar. 29 at 2 p.m. in Toronto. The team will also make stops in Utica, Grand Rapids, Chicago and Milwaukee prior to returning home on Friday, April 11 for Chicago at 7:05 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena.
