ICEHOGS HOLD OFF WILD 3-2

Iowa Returns Home Sunday at 5:05 PM to Host Milwaukee

Rockford, IL – The Iowa Wild (27-35-6-4, 64 points) were defeated by the Rockford IceHogs (34-30-5-4, 77 points) 3-2 in front of 6,524 fans at the BMO Harris Bank Center on Saturday night.  IceHogs forwards Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Brandon Mashinter scored fifty seconds apart just 1:15 into the 2nd period, giving Rockford a lead it would never relinquish. Iowa’s Jamie MacQueen scored early in the third period to pull the Wild within a goal, but the team was not able to pull even with the Hogs down the stretch. IceHogs goalie Jason Labarbera (15-14-3) made 23 saves for the win. In his Iowa debut, Wild goalie Joel Martin (0-1-0) stopped 22 of 25 shots in defeat. The Wild returns home to host Milwaukee at 5:05 p.m. on Sunday.

In only his fourth pro game, rookie Brady Brassart opened the scoring with the game’s only first-period goal. Veteran forward Carson McMillan shuffled a loose puck to Brassart in the Rockford slot. Brassart beat goalie Jason Lababera at 5:31, giving Iowa the 1-0 lead.

In the second period, Rockford tied the game 1-1 with a quick goal by Pierre-Marc Bouchard at 0:25. Phillip Danault and Ryan Hartman set up Bouchard’s ninth goal of the season. Brandon Mashinter scored at 1:15 to give the Hogs a 2-1 lead. His 14th goal of the year was assisted by Mathieu Brisebois and Adam Clendening. Later in the second, the Icehogs increased their lead to 3-1 at 7:47 of the second when Mathieu Brisebois fired a shot past goalie Joel Martin for his third goal of the year. Terry Broadhurst and Steve Johns each had an assist on the goal.

Iowa cut the deficit to 3-2 at 4:31 of the third period. Forward Jamie MacQueen finished off a play, scoring his second goal with the club. Rookie Tyler Graovac and defenseman Tyler Cuma each picked up an assist on the goal.

Iowa returns home on Sunday, Apr. 13 at 5:05 p.m. to host the Milwaukee Admirals. Fan Appreciation Weekend continues, as the Wild will be handing out numerous prizes, including a team poster. Sunday’s game also features the Subway Family Four Pack, which includes four tickets, four hotdogs, four sodas and four Subway BOGO (buy on get one free) coupons, starting as low as $44. Fans may also skate on the ice after the game in the final postgame skate of the year. The Wild welcomes Chicago for the final regular season home game on Wednesday, April 16 at 7:05 p.m.  Fans may purchase a $5 ticket to the game by presenting a Subway receipt at the Wells Fargo box office.
