Des Moines, IA – Iowa Wild General Manager Jim Mill on Tuesday announced the American Hockey League (AHL) club has re-signed defenseman Corbin Baldwin to a standard player contract (SPC) for the 2014-15 season.
"Baldwin is developing into a big and strong, physical defenseman that we are pleased to have under contract this season,” said General Manager Jim Mill.
Baldwin played in 64 games for the Iowa Wild in 2013-14, registering one assist and setting the team mark with 129 penalty minutes. The young defenseman also played in one game for Iowa’s Central Hockey League affiliate, scoring one goal with the Quad City Mallards.
The 23-year old turned pro in 2012-13, playing for the AHL’s Houston Aeros, ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears and the CHL’s Allen Americans. In four games with Houston, the 6-foot-5, 220-pounder picked up an assist with seven minutes in penalties. He spent the bulk of the season with Orlando, setting up five goals and racking up 49 penalty minutes in 38 games. The Winnipeg, MB native finished the year with the Allen Americans, playing in four regular season games with one assist. He also played in 19 playoff games, picking up three assists and the CHL’s Ray Miron Cup. Prior to his time in the pros, Baldwin played from 2008-12 with the WHL’s Spokane Chiefs. In 210 WHL games, he scored 11 goals and added 55 assists for 66 points.
The Iowa Wild regular season is presented by Mercy Medical Center and begins in October. Fans may purchase seats to Opening Night on Friday, Oct. 17 at Wells Fargo Arena.
