NEARLY 9,000 SEES IOWA EDGED BY OKC 5-4

Iowa Hits the Road, Returns Home Next Sunday

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa Wild (4-11-0-0, 8 points) were defeated by the Oklahoma City Barons (6-4-2-1, 15 points) 5-4 in front of 8,592 fans at Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday night. With the game tied 4-4 late in the third period, a goal from defenseman Brad Hunt lifted the Barons past the Wild. Iowa forward Brett Bulmer broke up a 3-3 tie in the second period, scoring his first goal of the season on a breakaway. But a goal from Oklahoma City forward Curtis Hamilton knotted the game at 4-4 midway through the third. Forwards Joel Rechlicz, Tyler Graovac and Brett Sutter also found the back of the net for the Wild. Forward Anton Lander scored twice and forward Travis Ewanyk scored once for the Barons in the victory. Iowa goalie Johan Gustafsson (4-7-0) made 35 saves on 40 shots in the defeat. Oklahoma City goalie Laurent Brossoit (1-3-0) stopped 29 of 33 shots to preserve the win. Iowa will visit Rockford at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Iowa scored early in the first period when forward Joel Rechlicz tipped in the puck past Oklahoma City goalie Laurent Brossoit at the 2:35 mark. Rookie forward Brady Brassart and rookie defenseman Christian Folin aided Rechlicz on his first goal of the season that gave the Wild a 1-0 lead. The Barons drew the score even with a five-on-three power-play goal from forward Anton Lander. Lander’s third goal of the year tied the game 1-1 and was assisted by defenseman Brad Hunt and forward Jason Williams. Oklahoma City took a 2-1 lead when Travis Ewanyk redirected a shot at 14:58. The play was set up by Hunt and rookie forward Jujhar Khaira. The Wild countered with a pair of goals late in the period. The first came when forward Tyler Graovac scored his fourth goal of the year on a five-on-three power play at 16:44, tying the game 2-2. Defenseman Danny Syvret and rookie forward Michael Keranen each tallied an assist on the play. At 18:30 Brett Sutter scored his third goal of season to give the Wild a 3-2 lead. Forwards Ryan Walters and Brett Bulmer fed Sutter the puck on the play.

In the second period, Lander scored his second goal of the night and fourth of season at 9:12. Lander’s goal tied the game 3-3 and was assisted by forwards Kale Kessey and Mitch Moroz. The Wild recaptured the lead at 15:21 when forward Brett Bulmer scored his first goal of the season on a breakaway. Syrevt fed Bulmer the puck on the play that gave Iowa a 4-3 lead.

The Barons tied the game 4-4 midway through the third period with a goal from forward Curtis Hamilton. Hamilton’s third goal of the season came at the 10:07 mark of the period and was aided by rookie defenseman C.J. Ludwig. Hunt found the back of the net 18:40 into the period on a power play, giving the Barons a 5-4 lead. Lander assisted Hunt on his third goal of the year.

After stops in Rockford and Chicago next weekend, Iowa returns home at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 23 to face Milwaukee. On Sunday fans can bring skates to take part in the postgame skate after the game, sponsored by Grip-Tite Foundation Repair. Fans are encouraged to bring canned foods to the game on Sunday to support a canned food drive presented by Fire Creek Grill. It’s also a Subway Family Four Pack game, where fans may buy four tickets, four sodas and four hot dogs, starting at $48.

The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April.
