IOWA WILD AND LIFESERVE HOSTS BLOOD DRIVE ON DEC. 29

Hockey Team To Help Efforts For Blood Donations

DES MOINES, IA  – The Iowa Wild, in conjunction with LifeServe Blood Center, announced on Tuesday the two organizations have partnered for the Iowa Wild Blood Drive on Monday, Dec. 29 from 12 – 6 p.m. at Hyvee Hall A, just west of Wells Fargo Arena and part of the Iowa Events Center.

Fans are encouraged to donate blood during a time of need for LifeServe Blood Center. For donating, all fans will be rewarded with one ticket to a future Iowa Wild hockey game and an Iowa Wild hat. The first 50 fans that make a donation will be given an Iowa Wild hat, autographed by one of the players. LifeServe will also be on hand for the Iowa Wild home game on Monday, December 29th at 7 p.m. against the Milwaukee Admirals at Wells Fargo Arena. LifeServe Blood Center will have attendants on the concourse selling autographed mystery pucks for $10 per puck. Each puck is signed by one Iowa Wild player. The proceeds from the mystery puck sale will be donated to LifeServe’s High School Scholarship program to reward students for their commitment to saving lives through blood donation and blood drive sponsorship.

The Wild welcomes Mason Helwig for the pregame ceremonial puck drop. He will be joined by his brother Max.  Mason is a three-year old who has faced serious adversity as a youth. At the tender age of two, Mason Helwig was diagnosed with two rare, life-threatening diseases, that affects one in every one million males. Treatment for these diseases required a bone marrow transplant, chemotherapy, multiple blood transfusions, and more. On May 24, 2013, Mason received a life-saving bone marrow transplant and a blood transfusion to help him overcome the diseases.  Mason and his family continue to have a few bumps in the road, but overall Mason is doing well largely due to treatments for his immune system that are made from lifesaving blood donations.

LifeServe Blood Center was established in April, 2010 when The Blood Center of Iowa joined operations with Siouxland Community Blood Bank.  As one of the 15 largest blood centers in the country, LifeServe Blood Center provides blood and blood products to more than 100 hospitals located across Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota.  LifeServe is committed to saving lives by providing premier service to volunteer blood donors and access to a safe, quality blood supply for hospitals and patients.  For more information about blood donation or to schedule an appointment to donate blood, call 800.287.4903 or visit www.lifeservebloodcenter.org.
