Iowa Goalie Gets the Call to NHL
DES MOINES, IA– Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher on Wednesday announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled goaltender John Curry from the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Curry, 30 (2/27/84), stopped 33-of-34 shots faced in two periods against Rockford last night and was named the No. 2 star in Iowa's 5-1 win. In 12 games with Iowa this season, he is 4-6-0 with a 3.02 goals-against average (GAA) and .911 save percentage (SV%), including 3-1-0 with a 2.12 GAA and .934 SV% in his last four starts. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound native of Shorewood, Minn., signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Wild on July 17.
Curry went 7-9-2 with a 2.62 GAA, a .920 SV% and one shutout in 19 games with Iowa last season. He also appeared in two NHL games with Minnesota in 2013-14, going 1-0-0 with a 3.00 GAA, and a .930 SV%. Curry made a Wild season-high 43 saves in a 4-2 win vs. St. Louis on April 10, to claim his first NHL win since Nov. 11, 2008. Curry also posted a 10-2-0 record, 2.66 GAA and .917 SV% in 13 games with Orlando (ECHL). He is 3-2-0 with a 3.55 GAA and a .893 SV% in six career NHL games, having played four NHL games with Pittsburgh from 2008-10. Curry went 59-29-15 with a 2.07 GAA, a .923 SV% and 13 shutouts in 107 games during four seasons at Boston University from 2004-07.
After a road game at Chicago on Saturday, the Wild returns home for its final home game prior to the holiday break.
