Iowa Remains on The Road, Returns Home Feb. 24

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Iowa Wild (17-35-1-1, 36 points) were defeated by the Charlotte Checkers (19-26-5-1, 44 points) 4-1 in front of 3,892 fans on Wednesday night at Time Warner Cable Arena. Forwards Brock McGinn and Chad Larose each scored a pair of goals as the Checkers picked up their third win over the last four games.  Charlotte goalie Drew MacIntyre (14-17-4) made 35 saves on 36 shots, handing Iowa its sixth straight defeat. Iowa goalie John Curry (8-14-0) was pulled early in the third period, stopping 17 of 21 in the defeat. Defenseman Danny Syvret scored the Wild’s lone goal. Iowa remains in Charlotte at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19.

Charlotte managed the first goal of the night at 16:28, as Brock McGinn tallied an unassisted goal with a wrist shot from the left-wing circle for the 1-0 lead. McGinn beat John Curry for his seventh goal of the season, as the teams headed to the first intermission with Charlotte up 1-0.

The Checkers doubled their lead at 4:04 of the second period, as veteran forward Chad Larose scored his team-leading 15th goal of the season. Larose potted a rebound in the high crease with help from Brody Sutter and Zack Boychuk for the 2-0 lead. Iowa dictated play in the period, outshooting Charlotte 19-10, but Checkers goalie Drew MacIntyre stopped all 19 second-period shots.

The Checkers increased their lead to 3-0 at 6:13 of the third period. McGinn snapped his eighth of the season past Curry for his second goal of night. Dennis Robertson and Brendan Woods each had an assist on the tally. The Wild got on the board at 6:28 of the third period after defenseman Danny Syvret snapped a wrist shot past Drew MacIntyre, getting his fourth goal of the season. Defenseman Jon Blum and rookie Olivier Archambault added the assists as Iowa cut the deficit to 3-1. Charlotte regained its three-goal lead at 8:23, as Larose picked up his second goal of the night. Center Patrick Brown set up the shorthanded goal, Larose’s 16th of the year.

After one more stop in Charlotte, followed by Milwaukee, Iowa returns home at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24 to face Grand Rapids. It’s a Taco Tuesday – presented by Taco Johns, where each fan that comes to the game receives a coupon for a free crispy beef taco from Taco Johns. It’s also a two-for-one Tuesday, where fans may purchase one attack end ticket and receive a second ticket one free, sponsored by Hits 99.9 FM. Also, those who bring in a Subway receipt may purchase a $5 game ticket at the box office. Iowa is also hosting a food drive, presented by Zerorez. Fans are encouraged to bring in a canned fruit item to receive a ticket voucher to a future regular season weekday game.

The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team’s 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena. Season tickets to see the Wild play at Wells Fargo Arena start at just $9 per game.
