MINNESOTA WILD RECALLS GOALIE DARCY KUEMPER

IOWA SIGNS GOALIE JOHN CURRY

Des Moines, IA – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher on Thursday announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled goaltender Darcy Kuemper from the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL). Iowa Wild General Manager Jim Mill announced on Thursday the club has signed goaltender John Curry to a standard player contract (SPC).

Kuemper, 23 (5/5/90), appeared in two preseason games with the Wild this year and stopped all 18 shots faced in 47:12 of action. He went 1-2-0 with a 2.08 goals-against-average (GAA) and a .916 save percentage (SV%) in six regular season games (three starts) with Minnesota last season. He made his NHL debut Feb. 12 at Vancouver and stopped 29-of-31 shots in a 3-2 win against Detroit on Feb. 17 to record his first career NHL victory. Kuemper appeared in two NHL playoff games in relief and stopped 29-of-33 shots faced for a 3.29 GAA and a .879 SV%.

He went 13-8-0 with a 1.88 GAA, a .934 SV% and four shutouts in 21 regular season games with the Houston Aeros (AHL) and 1-1 in two playoff starts stopping 67-of-70 shots faced for a 1.51 GAA, a .957 SV% and one shutout. The 6-foot-5, 205-pound native of Saskatoon, Sask., was the Wild’s sixth-round selection (No. 161 overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Curry, 29, attended training camp with the Iowa Wild and brings 178 games of AHL experience to Iowa. Last season, the Shorewood, MN native played for both, the Houston Aeros (AHL) and the Orlando Solar Bears (ECHL). Curry was 0-0-1 in his only appearance for Houston, falling in a shootout after allowing one goal in regulation with 33 saves on 34 shots. He also played in 33 games for Orlando, going 17-11-3 with a 2.80 GAA and a .905 SV%. Curry has played in 178 AHL games for Wilkes-Barre Scranton and Houston. Over his six-year career, he is 103-59-7 with a 2.48 GAA and a .908 SV%. He appeared in four NHL games with PIttsburgh from 2008-10, going 2-2 with a 3.79 GAA and a .867 SV%.

Iowa's Opening Night is slated for Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7:05 p.m. versus the Oklahoma City Barons at Wells Fargo Arena. The first 5,000 fans to game receive an Iowa Wild magnetic schedule and an Iowa Wild rally towel, compliments of KXNO. Sunday, the Wild and Barons will meet again at Wells Fargo Arena at 4:05 p.m. The first 5,000 fans to the game receive Iowa Wild ThunderSticks and a magnetic schedule. The team will also meet fans after the game for a full team autograph session on the ice. Over the weekend set, the Wild partner with the Iowa Chapter of ALS. As part of the partnership, the Iowa Wild will wear a specialty Inaugural season patch on the team's jerseys. Fans will be able to bid on the game-worn jerseys via a silent auction on the concourse over Opening Weekend. The auction will conclude at the end of the second intermission of the game on Sunday, Oct. 13. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Iowa Chapter of the ALS Association.
