Iowa Returns Home Tuesday For Regular Season Home Finale

DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild (23-45-2-2, 50 points) defeated the Oklahoma City Barons (38-26-5-3, 84 points) 4-0 in front of 8,233 fans on Friday at Wells Fargo Arena. Iowa goalie John Curry (13-20-2) made 28 saves to preserve the win, recording his second shutout of the year. Rookie forwards Zack Mitchell (1g, 1a) and Grayson Downing (2a) each tallied multi-point games in the victory. Forwards Brett Sutter and Michael Keranen, along with defenseman Jon Blum also scored for Iowa. Oklahoma City goalie Richard Bachman (14-5-3) stopped 24 of 28 shots in the loss. Iowa visits Chicago at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Apr. 12.

Iowa opened up the scoring 39 seconds into the first period when rookie forward Zack Mitchell fired the puck into the net on a breakaway. Mitchell’s 17th goal this season was assisted by defenseman Joel Chouinard and rookie forward Tyler Graovac, giving the Wild a 1-0 lead. Iowa extended its lead at 2:45 of the period when forward Brett Sutter launched a back-door shot past Oklahoma City goalie Richard Bachman. Forward Jared Knight and defenseman Stu Bickel aided Sutter on his 12th goal this year, making it 2-0 Wild. Iowa widened the gap at 16:27 of the period when defenseman Jon Blum drilled a one-timer into the net during a power play. Blum’s 11th goal this season was set up by rookie forward Grayson Downing and Mitchell for the 3-0 lead.

After a scoreless second period, forward Michael Keranen added the final tally for Iowa at the 18:15 mark of the third period. Keranen buried a rebound into the net for his 10th goal of the season. Rookie forward Olivier Archambault and Downing assisted Keranen on the play for the 4-0 final.

After a road game in Chicago on Sunday, Apr. 11, the Wild welcomes the Toronto Marlies for the final regular season home game at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 14 – celebrating Fan Appreciation Night. During the game, Iowa is giving away a multitude of coupons from corporate sponsors. It’s also a Taco Tuesday – presented by Taco Johns, where each fan that comes to the game receives a coupon for a free crispy beef taco from Taco Johns. It’s also two-for-one Tuesday, where fans may purchase one attack end ticket and receive a second ticket free, sponsored by Hits 99.9 FM. Also, those who bring in a Subway receipt may purchase a $5 game ticket at the box office.

The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April.
