Milwaukee Admirals (0-2-0-0, 0 points) at Iowa Wild (1-2-0-1, 3 points)

Iowa and Milwaukee meet for the first of eight meetings on the season. Iowa is still looking for its first home win of the season. Milwaukee is looking for its first overall win of the year. Iowa returns from Lake Erie, where the team split a weekend series with the Monsters.  The Admirals are coming off back-to-back losses, including the last outing, a 7-2 defeat at home to Charlotte on Friday night.  Iowa and Milwaukee met eight times in 2014-15, with the Wild taking the season series with a 5-3-0-0 mark. The Admirals lead the all-time series, posting an 11-5-1-1 record over the previous two seasons. Milwaukee is 7-0-1-1 all-time at Wells Fargo Arena, where Iowa is 2-6-1-0. The Wild has never beaten Milwaukee in regulation at Wells Fargo Arena.

Iowa returns home for three of the team’s next four games. After hosting Milwaukee on Tuesday, the team will play in Rockford on Wednesday prior to hosting Texas for a pair this weekend. The Wild are winless in its first two home games, having been outscored 9-5. Last season, Iowa was 10-26-1-1 at home – outscored 123-86. Milwaukee is 0-1-0-0 on the road this season, outscored 5-1. Milwaukee was 17-12-6-3 on the road last year, edged in scoring 107-104.

Last Time Out

The Iowa Wild defeated the Lake Erie Monsters 1-0 in a shootout in front of 6,177 fans at Quicken Loans Arena on Saturday evening. Making his season debut, Iowa goalie Leland Irving was perfect in regulation with 37 saves and stopped four of six shootout attempts for his team’s first win of the season. Wild forwards Michael Keranen, Christoph Bertschy and Brady Brassart each scored in the shootout. Brassart’s sixth-round shootout tally, followed by Irving’s save on Alex Broadhurst ended the scoreless contest. Monsters goalie Joonas Korpisalo stopped 21 shots in regulation and allowed three goals on six shootout attempts.

Iowa Wild

Forward Brady Brassart (2g-1a-3pts) leads the team in points through four games. Rookie forward Christoph Bertschy (1-1-2) is tied for second on the team in points with a pair. He is joined by center Jordan Schroeder, who has two points in three games, while forward Michael Keranen has two points in four games. Forward Ruslan Fedotenko and defenseman Gustav Olofsson are tied for the team lead with a pair of assists.  Goalie Jeremy Smith (0-2-1) is among the league leaders with 119 saves through three games. He has a 3.28 GAA and a .922 SV%. Leland Irving made his Iowa debut a special one, pitching a 37-save shutout of Lake Erie.  

Iowa is 2-for-17 (11.8%) on the power play and 14-for-17 (82.4%) on the penalty kill.

Notables:

·       Winger Brett Bulmer played in his 100th game as a member of the Wild on Saturday in Lake Erie. He became just the fifth player to reach that milestone. Center Brady Brassart is next on the active list at 85 games and counting.  

Milwaukee Admirals

The Admirals return 11 players from last year’s team that posted a 33-28-8-7 record with a fifth place finish in the Midwest Division. The club is missing two of its top scorers from the 2014-15 season, with Viktor Arvidsson and Austin Watson graduating to Nashville – Milwaukee’s NHL affiliate. Forward Colton Sissons is the new Captain of the Admirals, returning after potting 42 points in his second pro season last year. Left wing Pontus Aberg also returns after posting 16 goals as a rookie in 2014-15. Defenseman Taylor Aronson was also among the team leaders in points in 2014-15, leading all blueliners with 35 points in 73 games played. He is one of six players on Milwaukee with one point this season.

Goalies Marec Mazanec and Juuse Saros split time in net for Milwaukee.  Mazanec is 0-1-0 with a 5.02 GAA and a .844 SV%. Saros is 0-1-0 with a 5.02 GAA and a .865 SV%. Last season, Mazanec was 18-18-9 with a 2.76 GAA and a .900 SV%. Saros is in his first North American season out of Finland. The 20-year old posted a 2.13 GAA and a .929 SV% in the SM Liiga for HPK Hameenlinna.

Milwaukee is 0-7 on the power play, sitting tied for 28th in the league on the power play at 0.0%. The Admirals penalty kill is 5-for-11 and sits 29th at 45.5%.
