Milwaukee goalie Juuse Saros (1-1-0) made 23 saves on 25 shots in the victory – holding the Wild at two goals and allowing the Admirals to score three straight to pick up the first win of the year. Iowa goalie Leland Irving (1-0-1) stopped 32 of 35 shots in the loss. Forwards Zack Mitchell and Matt Carey both notched their first goals of the season for the Wild. After a scoreless first period, Iowa forward Zack Mitchell opened the scoring shorthanded at 7:32 of the second period. Mitchell took advantage of the penalty shot, firing the puck through Saros’ five-hole and giving the Wild a 1-0 lead. Iowa forward Matt Carey doubled the lead for the Iowa at 12:19 of the second. Carey found himself all alone in front of the net after forward Brady Brassart bounced a slap shot off the boards behind the net. Carey wasted no time beating Saros off the rebound, giving the Wild a 2-0 lead.

Gaudreau put the Admirals on the board at 2:03 of the third period. The Milwaukee forward beat Irving with a slap shot from the point, firing the puck into the upper-left corner. The power-play goal for Milwaukee cut the Wild lead in half at 2-1. The Admirals tied the game 2-2 at 18:24 of the third period after pulling Saros for an extra-attacker. Forward Vladislav Kamenev took a rebound in front of the net and beat a sprawling Irving to force overtime.

Milwaukee forward Adam Payerl scored his first goal of the season at 2:19 of overtime. Payerl took a 2-on-1 opportunity and wristed the puck past Irving, giving the Admirals their first victory of the season.
