DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild (2-5-1-1, 6 points) were defeated by the Rockford IceHogs (5-3-0-1, 11 points) 4-0 in front of 3,420 fans at BMO Harris Bank Center on Friday night. Behind the play of goaltender Michael Leighton, Rockford used second-period goals from Brandon Mashinter and Dennis Rasmussen to pull away from the Wild and post a shutout at home. Leighton (5-2-1) stopped all 20 Iowa shots, including nine in the middle period to increase his unbeaten in regulation string to five games (4-0-1-0). Forwards Pierre-Cedric Labrie and Dennis Robertson also scored in the Rockford win. Wild goalie Leland Irving (2-1-1) suffered his first regulation loss of the year with 30 saves on 34 shots. Iowa welcomes Milwaukee on Saturday at 7 PM at Wells Fargo Arena.

Rockford claimed a 1-0 lead at 8:31 of the first period when Dennis Robertson beat goalie Leland Irving for his first tally of the year. The Hogs forward carried the puck down the left wing wall and snapped a wrist shot past Irving for the game’s first goal.

The IceHogs made it 2-0 at 6:32 of the second period when Brandon Mashinter scored his third goal of the season. Center Marko Dano scooped up a loose puck at center ice and stickhandled into the Iowa zone, leaving a drop pass for Mashinter. The Hogs captain blasted a one-timer past Irving for the 2-0 score. Just as a power play expired, Rockford expanded its lead to 3-0 at 9:33. Mark McNeill set up Dennis Rasmussen for a one-timer in the right-wing circle. Defenseman Nolan Valleau added an assist on Rasmussen’s second goal of the year.

Former Wild captain Jake Dowell helped Rockford increase the lead to 4-0 at 7:55. Dowell won a faceoff to Pierre-Cedric Labrie, who blasted a one-timer last Irving for his second goal of the year.
