Iowa Hosts Rockford Tomorrow at 5 PM

DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild (3-5-1-1, 8 points) defeated the Milwaukee Admirals (2-4-1-0, 5 points) 3-2 in overtime in front of 4,145 fans at Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday night. Rookie defenseman Mike Reilly scored 3:51 into overtime, breaking a 2-2 tie and propelling the Wild past the Admirals. Wild goalie Jeremy Smith (1-4-1-0) stopped 40 of 42 shots for his first victory. Forward Brett Sutter and defenseman Joe Finley also scored in the Iowa win.  Milwaukee goalie Marek Mazanec (1-2-1-0) made 22 saves on 25 shots in the defeat. Forwards Max Gortz and Colton Sissons both tallied regulation goals for the Admirals. Iowa hosts Rockford on Sunday at 5 p.m.

Admirals forward Colton Sissons opened the scoring at 1:29 of the first period. Forward Viktor Arvidsson blasted a shot from just inside the zone on the right boards. Sissons redirected the puck on his backhand as he broke to the net, beating Smith for a 1-0 lead.

Iowa forward Brett Sutter scored his first goal of the season, tying the game 1-1 at 5:38 of the second period. Left wing Matt Carey started the play, taking a pass from defenseman Gustav Olofsson and firing a shot on net from the right circle. The puck trickled through the legs of Mazanec. Carey and Sutter both hacked away in the crease before Sutter slid the loose puck into the net. The Wild grabbed a 2-1 lead at 11:34 thanks to Finley’s first goal of the season. Finley took a pass from defenseman Maxime Fortunus and fired a slapshot from the point, beating Mazanec on the high-glove side.

Milwaukee forward Max Gortz tied the game 2-2 with 1:16 left in regulation. Gortz received a pass from defenseman Jimmy Oligny and one-timed a shot from the left point. The slapshot beat Smith low on the short-side, forcing overtime.

Wild defenseman Mike Reilly scored on the power play at 3:51 of overtime, giving the Wild a 3-2 victory. The goal came just as a 5-on-3 power play was expiring for Iowa. Reilly received a pass from Fortunus at the right point and blasted a one-timer towards the net. Mazanec got a piece of the shot, but not enough. The puck trickled under his arm and over the goal line, giving the Wild their first overtime win of the season.
