Milwaukee Admirals (2-4-1-0, 5 points) at Iowa Wild (3-6-1-1, 8 points)

Iowa and Milwaukee meet for the third of eight meetings this season. The two teams have split the season series at this point of the season. This will be the last matchup until Jan. 9 in Milwaukee. The Admirals have not played since their 3-2 OT loss to the Wild on Oct. 31, while Iowa is coming off a 2-0 loss at home to Rockford on Nov. 1. Iowa and Milwaukee met eight times in 2014-15, with the Wild taking the season series by posting a 5-3-0-0 mark. The Admirals lead the all-time series, posting a 12-5-1-1 record over the previous three seasons. Milwaukee is 8-0-1-1 all-time at Wells Fargo Arena, where Iowa is 2-6-2-0. The Wild has never beaten Milwaukee in regulation at Wells Fargo Arena.

Iowa is 2-3-1-1 at home this season, having been outscored 22-14 by the visitors. The Wild is 3-4-1-0 over its last eight games. In 2014-15, Iowa was 10-26-1-1 at home, getting outscored 123-86. Iowa plays it’s third of five straight at home and seven of the next eight at Wells Fargo Arena. Milwaukee is 1-1-1-0 on the road this season, outscored 10-6 by the home teams. Milwaukee was 17-12-6-3 on the road last year, edged in scoring 107-104.

Last Time Out

The Iowa Wild were defeated by the Rockford IceHogs 2-0 in front of 3,339 fans at Wells Fargo Arena on Sunday evening. Rockford goalie Mark Visentin stopped all 38 Iowa shots, including 17 shots in the first period for his first career AHL shutout. The IceHogs have shutout the Wild in two consecutive games dating back to Friday, Oct. 30. Rockford forward Garret Ross scored in the first period and forward Chris DeSousa added an empty-net goal in the third. Wild goalie Leland Irving stopped 28 of 29 shots in the loss.

Iowa Wild

Rookie winger Christoph Bertschy and Michael Keranen lead the Wild in scoring with six points in eleven games. Bertschy and Keranen are also tied for the team lead with four assists each. Defensemen Mike Reilly and Maxime Fortunus are tied for third on the club with four points each. Reilly leads all defensemen with two goals, while Fortunus is tied with Gustav Olofsson for the lead among defensemen with three assists. Forwards Brady Brassart and Matt Carey round off the top scorers with three points each. The team is without Jordan Schroeder, who remains on NHL call up to Minnesota.  He had five points in eight games prior to going to the NHL.

Goalie Jeremy Smith (1-4-1) is among the league leaders with 232 saves through six games played. He has a 3.12 GAA and a .924 SV%. Leland Irving has made five appearances, going 2-2-1 with a 1.95 GAA and a .939 SV%.

Iowa ranks 25th after going 5-for-43 (11.6%) on the power play. The team is 42-for-48 (87.5%) on the penalty kill - seventh in the AHL.

Notables:

·      Iowa is 0-1-0-0 in its only School Day Game in team history, while Milwaukee is 2-4-0-1.

 

Milwaukee Admirals

The Admirals return 11 players from last year’s team that posted a 33-28-8-7 record with a fifth place finish in the Midwest Division. The club is missing two of its top scorers from the 2014-15 season, with Viktor Arvidsson and Austin Watson graduating to Nashville – Milwaukee’s NHL affiliate. Forward Colton Sissons is the new Captain of the Admirals and leads the team in points, posting two goals and three assists for five points through seven games. Center Vladimir Kamenev leads the Admirals in goals with four.

Goalies Marec Mazanec and Juuse Saros split time in net for Milwaukee.  Mazanec is 1-2-1 with a 3.41 GAA and a .886 SV%. Saros is 1-2-0 with a 3.31 GAA and a .889 SV%.

Milwaukee is 6-36 on the power play, sitting tied for 16th in the league on the power play at 16.7%. The Admirals penalty kill is 23-for-32 and sits 29th at 71.9%.
