DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild (3-7-1-1, 8 points) were defeated by the Milwaukee Admirals (3-4-1-0, 7 points) 3-0 in front of a record crowd of 11,503 fans at Wells Fargo Arena on Thursday morning. The Admirals used a perfect performance from goalie Juuse Saros (2-2-0-0) and two power-play goals from forwards Frederick Gaudreau and Pontus Aberg to push past the Wild. Saros stopped all 23 Iowa shots in his second victory of the season. Iowa goalie Jeremy Smith (1-5-1-0) made 35 saves on 38 shots in the loss. Milwaukee also received a third-period goal from forward Eric Robinson. Iowa hosts Lake Erie on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

Milwaukee right wing Pontus Aberg opened the scoring at 7:06 of the first period. After killing off a penalty of their own, the Admirals took advantage of their first power play of the game. Aberg found a soft spot in the high slot as forward Max Gortz corralled the puck on the left boards. Gortz fired a pass to the middle of the ice and Aberg redirected the puck over the Smith’s shoulder for a 1-0 Admirals lead.

The Admirals received a second power-play goal from forward Frederick Gaudreau at 12:32 of the second period. Gaudreau beat a sprawling Smith after two tape-to-tape passes from forwards Viktor Arvidsson and Max Reinhart. Arvidsson received a pass at the left of the goal from Reinhart and one-timed the puck back door to Gaudreau. The forward took care of the rest, tapping the puck into the net for a 2-0 Milwaukee lead.

Milwaukee scored at 1:39 of the third period to build its lead to 3-0. A Wild turnover in its own zone led to a loose puck in front of the net. Admirals forward Eric Robinson picked up the loose puck and slid it into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
