Same Two Teams Meet on Sunday at 3 PM

DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild (3-7-1-2, 9 points) were defeated by the Lake Erie Monsters (5-2-0-2, 12 points) 3-2 in a shootout in front of 5,322 fans at Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday night. The Monsters used a shootout goal from forward Sonny Milano to push past the Wild. Lake Erie goalie Joonas Korpisalo (2-0-0-2) made 35 saves on 37 shots and shut the door in the shootout for his second victory of the season. Iowa goalie Leland Irving (2-2-1-2) made 33 saves on 35 shots in the loss. Forwards Grayson Downing and Kellan Lain each scored a regulation goal for the Wild. Lake Erie received regulation goals from defenseman Michael Paliotta and forward Michael Chaput. The Wild and Monsters rematch tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. 

In his season debut, Wild forward Grayson Downing opened the scoring at 3:58of the first period. Defensemen Mike Reilly and Zach Palmquist each tallied an assist on the play. Reilly carried the puck down the right boards and into the offensive zone. Slowing up inside the blue line, Reilly found Downing behind the Monsters defense. Downing took Reilly’s pass as he broke to the net, making a move to his backhand and raising the puck over Korpisalo’s shoulder for a 1-0 Wild lead. Lake Erie defenseman Michael Paliotta tied the game 1-1 at17:41 of the first. Forwards Alex Broadhurst and Daniel Zaar each picked up an assist on the power-play goal. Broadhurst moved the puck back to Paliotta along the right boards. Paliotta fired a shot past Irving from above the right circle, sneaking the puck inside the far post. 

Monsters center Michael Chaput scored on the power play at 12:35 of the second period. Broadhurst picked up his second assist of the night on the play. He fed the puck to forward Ryan Craig on the left of the goal. Craig one-touched a pass to Chaput in the slot. Chaput one-timed the puck past Irving, off the left post and into the net for a 2-1 lead. 

Wild forward Kellan Lain tied the game 2-2 at 15:57 of the third period with his first goal of the season. Forward Jared Knight and defenseman Zach Palmquist each had an assist on the goal. Korpisalo made a leg save on Palmquist's shot from the point, redirecting the puck to the right side. Lain one-timed the rebound into the net before Korpisalo could recover, sending the game to overtime.

Neither team scored in the overtime period, sending the game to a shootout. Korpisalo stopped all three shooters he faced and Milano beat Irving on the backhand, giving the Monsters the extra point. 

Iowa hosts Lake Erie again at 3 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena. Sunday features the Sunday combo pack courtesy of Subway and Star 102.5 FM. Fans receive one ticket, one hot dog, one soda, and one Subway coupon starting at $12. The Wild travels to Grand Rapids for a game on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 6:00 p.m.

The Wild and IceHogs rematch the following day at 7 p.m. Veterans Appreciation Weekend continues on Saturday with ALS night. The team is hosting a live jersey auction benefitting ALS Association of Iowa Chapter following the game. The first 1,500 fans to the game receive an Iowa Wild “Stars and Stripes” hat courtesy of Vatterott College and ALT 106.3. The “Legends Brewdog Pack” is also be available, including one ticket, beer, hot dog, and one free Bud or Bud Light at Legends American Grill.

The Wells Fargo Arena box office is open Monday – Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and closed on Sunday. For Saturday game days, the box office will open at 10 a.m. For Sunday game days the box office will open at 12 p.m. Fans may also purchase tickets by calling 1-844-55-HYVEE or by visiting participating Hy-Vee food stores locations in the greater Des Moines area. The Iowa Wild 2015-16 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April.
